| sr460's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 8870 (P2942AR#ABA) PC Des... |
I bought my Pavilion 8870 on bestbuy.com in early May 2001 and from the moment I received it, I've been very impressed. It performs well, looks great, and it was a lot cheaper than most comparable systems.
First of all, it is very good looking and easy to use. The keyboard is big and has some neat looking internet access buttons as well as a sleep mode button, a help button, DVD player controls, and volume controls. It is connected to the computer via USB and it has two USB connections within itself. The mouse is a nice gray tone and has a scrolling feature. It is also connected via USB (by the way, there are six USB inputs in total).
The computer itself is what really shines. The processor is an AMD Athlon running at 1200 Mhz, it has 128 MB RAM, and a 60 GB hard drive. The CD-RW drive reads at 32X, writes at 8x, and re-writes at 4x. It's not the fastest one on the market but it gets the job done quickly. The software used to run it is very easy to use and is very helpful. The DVD-ROM drive reads DVDs at 12x speed and reads CDs at 40x speed. It is also very easy to use and the picture is incredible.
I have had no problems running any programs. The operating system runs smoothly and as of now I have had no crashes or glitches.
This machine really shines when it comes to running games. The nVidia TNT2 PRO AGP graphics card is equipped with 32 MB video RAM. Any thing I throw at it runs exceptionally well. Frame rates are above par and loading times are very fast.
The speakers that come with this system are also very good but I bought myself a set of Altec Lansing ATP-3 speakers because they include a subwoofer and they compliment the system very well as well as give it an extra punch.
Anyone looking for a fast and affordable computer should check out this computer. I paid $1,099 plus $75 shipping and have not found a comparable system for such a low price. You WILL NOT regret buying this computer!!!
