Avoid at all cost

Pros: Tech support tried

Cons: Drinks ink, noisy, actually "walks" on the desk from the shaking. Terrible photo printing.

The Bottom Line: Worst printer I ever had. Epson dropped the ball on this one. Avoid this one!

I bought this 780 printer new and for the first couple of weeks it printed well, but then it needed head cleaning due to streaky pictures. It just about sucked the ink cartridges dry doing that! I had already bought extra cartridges and found myself installing them in under a month of use. It seemed that every single time I used the printer it would require head cleaning first, which would lower the ink levels greatly. The quality was terrible! Only text printed out decently.
The printer went from bad to worse as time went on. Calls to Epson resulted in about an hour-long "Let's try this" and finally they sent me a RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) to send it back at their expense. When the replacement came in, it too did well for a couple of weeks but then the same thing happened. First the photos printed streaky then the colors became sorta greenish. The printer made much more noise than I would have ever thought possible from such a small machine, but I was willing to take that in stride for a decent printer. After another tech support call, they offered to take it back again but by then I was disgusted enough to just store it in the basement and go on to a new printer. I replaced it with an Epson Stylus Color 880 and have been happy ever since. I even bought the 880 off eBay in used condition! It's a great printer. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy this 780 (supposedly Photo) printer.
