Not that long ago I decided to replace my old Nec p-133 laptop with something a lot faster, with a bigger hard drive, and dvd :) First model that i researched was a custom built sony with P3 500, 64mb ram,6gb hd, 14.1 tft screen and 8x dvd for about 1999.99 with a 100 dollar rebate. Second was a custom built dell p600, 64mb ram, 4.8gb hd, with the 14.1 screen and dvd for about 2028. after more internet research, along with asking friends that do tech desk support their opinions i remembered hp. At first I had decided on the N3330 until I checked prices and noticed that the N3350 that includes DVD was only (get this) 50 dollars more!
Here are the system specs:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMD K6-2+ 550 with 3DNow! Technology with PowerNow!
basically the powernow part is cool cuz you can set the computer to lower the processor speed if you are just using the laptop for internet or email so it conserves battery power.
64MB ram
5GB HD
I checked before I started downloading and installing more programs that there was about 2.5 GB of space left after all the preinstalled software
1.44 Floppy
6X Toshiba DVD-ROM
Builtin 56k modem
Definately cool, my old laptop had a pc card modem and I was always terrified of losing the cord, with the builtin modem you just plug a standard phone cord into the side of the laptop and your set. also on the left side there are 2 slots in case you want to get a ethernet/modem card and plug it in, then you can just disable the built in modem.
Full size, spill resistant keyboard
16 bit Soundblaster Pro
Trident Cyberblade I7 AGP 3D graphics with 3D hardware acceleration
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another cool thing about this laptop is that it has a usb port! now i dont mean to sound like an idiot but its sweet! I can finally go out taking pics with my digital camera and just bring along my laptop to transfer instead of having to wait til i get home. That combined with front cd panel controls that enable you to use the dvd player like a standard cd player without turning on the entire laptop and wasting the battery (which is definately cool on long airplane trips like the 8 hour one im going to have to scotland soon)came in handy when making my decision.
Heres a list of all the preinstalled software

overall this laptop is one of the best purchases that I've made, it cost 1549.00 directly from www.hpshopping.com and I also got 10 free dvd rentals from netflix, free earbud headset, and an upgrade coupon for windows ME. I also got a backup battery for about 170. Battery power if you have all the optimum settings for power set which includes using powernow! was about 6 hours just using the internet, 2 if you are watching a dvd movie. screen colour is crisp and dvd playback is absolutely gorgeous with no lag at all, keys give a nice brisk click and are not spongy at all.
I would recommend this laptop to people who are interested in quality while saving money
