| urpc12's Full Review: Sony SDM-M81 18 inch LCD Monitor |
I first previewed this monitor at a Comp USA superstore, and then later that night ordered it online from buy.com
I must say the monitor looked GREAT in the store!
The picture quality was awesome the refresh rate didn't seen to be a problem at all!
I was comparing this monitor to an Envision 17 inch which I must say is also a great buy for the cost ($500 it's LCD too).
The sony monitor in the store was computer grey, and the one I ordered was black. The black one is much more sleeker looking but that all depends on where you put it, and your house design.
The hookups in the back of the back of the monitor are great, and it has support for Digital (DVI) and analog inputs as well as the speaker and power inputs.
I was building a new system, and purchases this as my new monitor, and before my new system was ready I wanted to test out the new monitor on an older Compaq I had used for a while. The compaq had an on-board video card, and would only let me run the monitor at 1024x768, and in the store I had previewed it at 1280x1024 so my resolution was a LOT smaller than that of what I had seen it at in the store.
I must tell you I was impressed with the "not so good" onboard video card in the compaq's computer. The image was sharp, and clear, and it was VERY EASY on my eyes compared to my other SONY CRT. Sony makes great CRTs but the LCD is so easy on your eyes.
If you are going to be staring at a monitor for hours on end I think you should for sure get an LCD.
On to my testing, I purchased a Geforce 3 with DVI (Digital Output) so that I could take full benefits of my monitors DVI inputs.
I must tell you the Digital is a LOT better than the Analog just right off the bat it looked so much nicer. 5 minutes of tuning the monitor for my digital input, and BAM! I was in love with this GREAT looking monitor.
This monitor is an 18.1 LCD and looks like a 21 CRT. The size is amazing, and you can set it practically NEXT to your wall.
I "claimed" so much more desk space with this monitor, it's amazing. Another great reason to get this monitor is if you use your desk to write on and do work on! This monitor will free up a good 1 or 2 square feet depending on the size of your desk.
Over all this is a geat monitor, and a must have for anyone sitting in front of their PC for hours on end!
