Pros: Bright & Sharp Colors, Flat Screen, Many Settings Available
Cons: High Price, Lack of Focus, Insufficient Response from Manufacturer, Weight (nearly 42 lbs)
The Bottom Line: This monitor has bright, sharp colors. However, the one I got was a lemon. Don't buy one, unless you can take it back to the store, should you need to.

I had high hopes for this monitor. It was recently rated in the "Top Ten" of a well known PC publication. It was rated high for brightness of colors and readable text in applications like Word and Excel. Unfortunately, from the time I turned the monitor on, the one I had proved to be defective. There was a dark red area in the lower left corner that persisted through several cycles of degaussing. After several hours it did finally dissipate. However, another problem persisted: grainy and blurry display. No matter how many times I degaussed the monitor or experimented with the multitude of settings, I could not get rid of the problem. There were also white streaks to the right of letters at any resolution over 60 Hz. The letters on the screen resembled those of a 9 pin dot matrix printer. It had these problems apart from the computer, in "self-test" mode as well. Two calls to Sony technical support yielded no solutions. The only option given to me was to pack the monitor up and ship it to their service center. I was told that I would have to pay for shipping this behemoth to the center (nearly 50 lbs with packing). Even though I protested to a supervisor, I was told that was the only option. So, now the monitor costs $380 with this additional shipping expense, making it $100 more than its closest competitor, Viewsonic Professional Series. When I asked for an opportunity to appeal this injustice to the supervisor's supervisor, I was told that above her are "administrative staff" and "they do not speak with customers." Viewsonic and other companies offer a free exchange under similar circumstances, and their monitors go for at least $100 less.
If you don't get a "lemon," perhaps you will like the monitor, but beware if you have a problem with it. I find the Sony service a "lemon" as well. The lack of quality of this expensive monitor and the lack of response to the customer has soured me on purchasing any more Sony monitors. Next one will be a Viewsonic.
Incidentally, I did give Sony a chance. I warned them that I would post my story, and I gave them an opportunity to rectify the situation. They refused. So perhaps I can save someone else the hassle I experienced. My advice to you is stick with a company that offers better quality and better service and is more responsive to customer concerns.
