| The_HTML_Man's Full Review: Sony VAIO PCV-RX460 PC Desktop |
Sony is a creator of many overpriced high quality equipment. Though their prices can be steep, the quality tends to be there. This computer is spendy, but it's really a good deal, so it's a break away from the norm for Sony. It comes with an AMD Athlon 1 GHz processor, 128 megs of SDRam, a 40 gig harddrive, 17 inch Sony Trinitron Monitor, and fully decked out with software like Adobe Photoshop Elements to Tomb Raider Chronicles.
As far as speed goes, the processor of this computer suits your basic needs. This is not the fastest computer you can buy, but it opens, starts up, loads software into memory, and runs multiple application at a very good speed. Though some people might be tempted to go buy a faster computer, at this point in time, there is no need. For a basic home use this computer will suffice nicely. A 1 GHz processor keeps it moving along nice and slowly, and being that it's by AMD means it is still a high quality piece of equipment.
O.k. so speed isn't everything in a computer, but this computer also comes fully decked out. The memory, 128 megs, is sufficient enough to run many applications at once and not have the huge slow down. It's also fully upgradable and could be taken up to 500+ megs of memory. Since 128 is the typical amount to come on computer nowadays, it's not really a huge amount, but it's definitely better than some that try to get you with less memory, and much less smooth running. It's not an overabundant amount of memory, but believe me, being fully upgradable, it doesn't have to be the max amount. With another hundred bucks you can upgrade the memory quite a bit more and then you'd be really set to go.
As far as software on this thing, it's amazing how much stuff came with it. This computer has a 40 gig, 7500 rpm, harddrive. It comes with lots of nice programs already on it. I already mentioned Adobe Photoshop Elements, but it comes with a lot more graphic and video editing programs. The typical microsoft office suite products are not here and you have Quatro Pro 9, Corel Word Perfect 9, and the whole Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 suite. This suits all your document needs. All your basic domuments and spreadsheets can be done right through those programs. Basically I don't want to name everything, because on the basic starting resolution of the computer, 1024x768, if you go to the start menu, and go to programs, the list runs all the way from the top of the screen to the bottom. It comes loaded.
As far as problems with the computer. I really haven't had many problems, and any problems that did occur were issues with Windows ME. The only major problem I guess is that the computer comes with Windows ME and I'm not a big fan on ME. It's not like it wrecks the computer or anything, and it's not like a completely horrible operating system, but it does have it's share of problems, as does every OS. I guess I just thought I should worn some people that haven't used ME before that this computer comes with it, and that ME isn't the greatest operating system around.
I really like this computer. I took it out of the box. Took only a few minutes to setup, and bam I was up and running. Everything worked great, I had no problems from start up. A nice feature that I did like is that the monitor that comes with the computer, comes with three USB ports right on the side of it. It's very useful. The computer itself also has USB ports, so it's not like there is a shortage, it's just more useful to plug right into the side of the monitor. All together it has six USB ports.
The monitor itself I guess deserves some attention since I mentioned it. A 17 inch monitor, but it's not your typical bubble monitor, it's flat screen(not a flat monitor). The resolution comes at a default of 1024x768 and is perfect. It's very crisp, true, clean color, and not tiny and hard to see stuff on the computer. The colors are smooth. This is a great monitor for watching some great games on or looking at some very good graphics. I am really impressed at the quality of the monitor for the price I paid. It's a very nice monitor and should not be overlooked.
Well I guess in general this computer feels really nice. It runs fast and you can feel it running fast. It's got a big harddrive for all those MP3's you like to download. It comes with tons of good software for graphics and video editing. The WordPerfect 2000 Office suite is included and takes care of many of your office needs. All in all this is a good computer and though it's not the most expensive, it is still worth the price. I find it to be a really good buy. I bought this computer and have been very satisfied with it. It suits all my needs. It runs well. It's a good buy. If you're not loaded with cash and are thinking of getting a good computer that won't really bust the bank, this is a good deal. It's not the most expensive Sony product out there and it's still high quality.
