Pros: 8mbps downstream, AWESOME design chasis and casing, and simply amazing.
Cons: Somewhat light, which can caution people to watch where they put it.
The Bottom Line: The Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5620 is the most visually appealing modem I have seen, and the perfomance, ease of use, and cool features make this the DSL modem to own.

| briansd2k's Full Review: Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5260 DSL Modem (120... |
So we had dial-up service for like what?, two or three years now and dial-up simply isn't enough these days. Too many people have it, and too many people hate it. So I saved up my budget, and racked in extra spending money to order DSL service through Earthlink.net broadband. But I didn't pay anything because they always have special promotions.
So far I must say that the Efficient SpeedStream 5260 is the only DSL modem we have ever had, but for what I have witnessed, it is by far the best in the line or so I have heard. It's proven to be quite a nifty piece of machinery, and my entire family enjoys watching the kilobytes per second rack in and the modem lights blinking with furiosity. My internet service provider said that it is possible to reach speeds of 1.5Mbps (MegaBits per second), which is roughly 180-200KBps (KiloBytes per second), however, it depends on the distance from your phone line to the central office and traffic conditions of the telephones.
But the average, optimum speed for max performance of DSL is within 5,000-6,000 feet of the central office. The maximum distance from your phone line to the central office for most DSL services require you that you be within about 15,000-18,000 feet.
We happen to be 11,000 feet, but we still average 1.3Mbps, which is quite a relief knowing you are still in the MegaBits instead of the KiloBits. I am not sure if it is because of the modem, or because we are lucky, but I thank the little machine for putting up a distance fight. We also happen to live in a luxury dwelling complex with tons of residence and business people and a big neighborhood is nearby. I am sure there are tons and tons of telephone activity streaming everywhere in our area.
One thing I love most about the Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5620, is the wonderful chasis and casing. It is an awesome compact little machine with the coolest design I have ever seen. It sort of takes after the Efficient Networks logo with the swooshes and curved designs. It almost looks like a modern European sports vehicle. It is black, with a silver tin on the portion of the front, and two gray fins on the left side so it can stand vertically and definitely look like a broadband modem.
What is most intriguing is the LED system. There are four small holes punching out the front through the silver tin, and the second and the fourth blink simultaneously when you have internet traffic. REALLY NICE!
I also love the non-linear vent system. It isn't your usual square, or circle, but instead an airplane shaped tail folded over the front and right side. That also increases it's beauty.
This is was ridiculously "EASY" to set up. The instructions weren't hard to follow at all. Quite simple I might add. Anyone could do it. The manual also has a diagram to show what each light means and what the colors of the lights represent, incase you are ever curious, as what most people are.
Included with the SpeedStream 5620 is a power adapter of course, ethernet cord, and a telephone line. Not a lot of junk included, just the basics and all you need.
People would enjoy this modem a lot, because it gives you the maximum speed it can punch out for ultra fast downloads, cable quality streaming video, CD quality streaming audio, and fast webpage loading in the blink of an eye. No waits, no hassle, and nothing that would disappoint you.
Why would you need this modem really? Well, if you are a person who wants something visually appealing to match a computer system, and/or looking for a great deal, great performance, and awesome usability, then the Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5620 is for you.
