| lefkop's Full Review: Compaq Presario 1215US (470011-356) PC Notebook |
This computer is small – great for traveling, fairly light weight, fast, comes with a cdrw and DVD player and a 1 GHZ chip. What else do you need? It comes close to being a desk top replacement. This computer by the way uses the AMD Athlon 4 processor – its faster than the Intel chip for most applications
I had a dell inspiron 8000 and what a piece of crap that machine is/was with a Customer support team that was even worse. I don’t mean to blunt but I have to tell the truth. Frankly, this little Presario does everything I want it to do without hassle or complication. Lets be honest here in this review you have a lot of computer manufactures but the bottom line is they use similar components. To that end they all have similar tech specs including battery life. My contention is that it would be difficult for an average user to tell the difference between a 850 and 1.0 GHZ machine doing normal daily tasks.
Then you watch a DVD the screen is clear and the sound is great for a laptop – It is even loud. When you want to do your power points and word documents everything is smooth as fast - no problem. Bottom line its great with the internet.
Compact does use a portion of the hard drive to store backup information so you may get a 20gig hard drive but some of that space is used up before you turn the unit on. I understand you can call compact about this. There are no serial ports on this computer but really – who cares. You do have 2 USB ports and a spot for your external keyboard. There is a T.V. out that is easy access on the back if you desire to use that feature as well as external monitor out.
The 3D graphics is not wonderful but I do play NHL 2001 hockey on it (the only game I have) and it runs reasonably well. If I want top shelf graphics performance I will use my home desktop unit. This computer is used primarily for business documents, internet and a mobile DVD/CD player
It is not as fully featured some of the other computers but it does everything I want and expect it to do. When buying your computer really think about what you are getting into. Don’t buy your computer just on tech specs alone. This computer is light, has a smaller screen, so it is usable on a plane. 15 inch monitors are beautiful in the store but horrible and difficult to use in the real world. Get a great little computer for use on the road and update your desktop for things like doing video. Also computer tech changes so fast and you will be buying a new system in just a few years so get something that works great for now without spending zillions of dollars for what you may want to do in the future. You will be very happy with this Presario.
