Sometimes I need color ... lots of color. Imagine my delight when I opened the office supply cabinet and discovered the Sharpie Fine Point Marker package 17 bold colors with 5 new colors! Color Heaven.
Description
Each Sharpie marker measures 5 1/2" long x 1/2" wide. The caps are color-coded to the marker color and have plastic clips on them so that the markers can be attached to papers, notebooks, file folders or even shirt pockets. When the caps are removed, they easily slide onto the end of the marker to prevent becoming lost.
These fine point markers are loaded with permanent non-toxic ink that the manufacturer says is fade and water resistant. The points are sharp and about 1/4" long. The barrel is round and a comfortable fit in the hand.
I like the packaging for these markers. The markers come on a cardboard card, covered by clear plastic so that the color caps are easily visible. When the cardboard is peeled away from the see-through plastic, the plastic serves as a tray to keep the markers organized. The tray does not have a cover, but the markers neatly rest in two tiers a clever packaging design. Nine markers rest on the bottom tier and eight markers on the top tier.
The Colors
This Sharpie set boasts five new colors: marigold, burgundy, plum, olive green and navy blue.
The other fourteen colors are: black, royal blue, sky blue, aqua, dark green, lime green, yellow, dark pink, scarlet red, dark brown, orange and purple.
While the cap on each marker shows the color of the ink ... the color cap is not an accurate match to the actual shade of ink. All the inks are vibrant and bold. This is a nice assortment of colors.
My Experiences
Perhaps you are wondering why I would need so many color inks in my job. Well, as a rule, I dont. But once and awhile a project comes along that requires a lot of organizing. This vast array of permanent ink makes color-coding easy. And color-coding data helps me keep my projects organized. Im not the only one who enjoys an assortment of color to choose from, either. My coworkers, everyone from the shipping department to the art department, have found a use for the variety of marker shades.
Even though these markers are labeled fine point, they write in a bold line ... no spidery lines here. I experimented by using a light hand, and still the ink wrote in easy-to-read bold lines. The pointy marker tip enables me to place ink exactly where I want it, too. These tips stay pointy. I have never had a Sharpie tip split or malfunction.
The one downside to these Sharpie markers is that they will bleed through a page of paper. Writing on a lined pad of white paper, the markers left dots of ink on the page beneath. When using these markers on a manilla file folder, the writing shows through the other side but does not bleed through the paper onto other surfaces. Writing on thick cardboard such as corrugated cardboard is no problem; there is no bleed through.
The manufacturer says that these markers write well on smooth surfaces such as glass, wood, metal, plastic, coated paper, photographs, foil and tape. I have used the markers on wood, plastic, paper, foil and tape and the markers work great.
I have not had a problem with these Sharpie markers fading. The ink stays bright and bold. As for being water resistant, what I write on in the office is not exposed to the elements. However, I wrote on a piece of white lined paper using all 17 colors, let the paper sit for a few hours, and then ran the paper beneath a stream of water from the faucet. The ink remained as written. Other than making the paper wet, the water made no difference.
There is a slight, distinctive odor when using the markers. The smell does not bother me, and no one in the office has complained about it. It helps that the ink from these markers is very quick to dry.
Purchasing
Our office purchased this 17-pack of Sharpie markers in assorted colors from Staples for $10.39. Sharpie packages their markers a variety of ways, so if you dont need all 17 colors, you can buy Sharpie markers in 3-packs, 5-packs, 8-packs, by the dozen ... or a variety of other ways such as in packages with assorted colors or purchase only one color.
Summary
I enjoy using Sharpie markers, and discovering this array of color in the supply closet was a bonus. Sharpie markers always produce a bold, easy-to-read line ... and it helps that these colors are eye-catching. My own personal rainbow!
