SEBASTIAN LETS YOU BOUNCE!

Written: Aug 05 '05 (Updated Aug 10 '05)
Pros:Keeps its hold but hair feels soft and bouncy.
Cons:A little sticky when first applied.
The Bottom Line: If you have to style your hair and use hair spray but want touchable bouncy looking hair, this is the right product for you.

As I have informed you before in my review about Joico Hi Rise Styling Mousse, I have had my long hair cut shorter on top and layered in the length. It is a really versatile cut that I can curl or wear scrappy. In order to achieve the scrappy look with lift on top, I needed two products. The one listed and this product, Sebastian Shaper Plus Hair Spray which my hairdresser claims is the best hairspray you can buy. I figured I would take her advice and buy some. Her hair is gorgeous, and not a hair out of place, but it doesn’t look like hair spray has been applied. It looks natural and bouncy.

Ingredients:

Alcohol 152A, Isobutane, ethyl mer, glycerine, ethylhexyl, phenone-3, cyclomethileamidopropyl ethyl dimethyl lauramine isostearpanthenol, PEG-75 lanoline, lates/butylaminoethyl, dimethylstearamine, denat., hydroflourocarbon, ester of PVMMA copolymethoxycinnamate, benzocone, lactamide mea, linomonium ethosulfate, diate, aminomethyl propynol, octylacrylamide/acrymethacrylate copolymer, fragrance (parfum).

This product comes in a 10.6oz, large, white aerosol can with a regular aerosol spray nozzle. It can be bought in beauty salons and beauty supply stores for around $13.00

Sebastian’s Claim:

The styling product professionals can’t live without. Twenty-four hour control that’s never stiff or sticky and holds up in high humidity. The original strong hold.

Shape your hair into fashion with Shaper Plus Strong holding hairspray. Designed to hold all day. Humidity resistant. Terrific for medium and heavy hair textures. Extra holding ingredients are never sticky.

My Experience:

I hate hair sprays. I hate the sticky feeling. I hate the rough texture it gives your hair and the fact that your hair doesn’t bounce freely when it is sprayed. And some even take the natural shine away and leave build up from hell. That is why I have been wearing my hair long and super straight. Don’t need hairspray there. But with this cut, my hair needs a little help staying in place.

I only agreed to use this spray because my hairdresser talked me into it after having me feel how soft and natural her hair was after application. She said it is the best hairspray made and that she wouldn’t use anything else on herself or her customers. Well, that was good enough to prompt me to try it.

After washing drying and styling with the root lift product. I sprayed this product on my hair sparingly and was able to move my hair around to its style easily but it also stayed put. When I reached the desired effect, I sprayed it sparingly again to keep its hold. When first applied, this product feels a little sticky but if you wait until it dries and comb through your hair again, it produces bouncy, natural looking hair but still keeps its hold.

In fact, it keeps its hold in the breeze, in the humidity of the Texas Coast with no problem at all. My hair stayed in place all day. I was thrilled. I have also sprayed my hair lightly with this product before using a curling iron. It doesn’t burn the hair and helps produce well defined curls.

Conclusion:

Although I am not too keen on all the chemical ingredients this spray has, I feel that the glycerine ingredients are what keeps the hair soft and manageable. I have noted that most hairsprays have a lot more ingredients than this so the fewer the better is what counts with hairsprays. I am very pleased with the natural look but this product’s ability to hold the hair in place without it feeling stiff, sticky or rough is amazing. If you have to use hair spray but want touchable hair, I recommend using Sebastian Shaper Plus Hair Spray. It has superior staying power and is not very expensive.
