Pros: inexpensive, large quantity in bottle, leaves hair soft
Cons: feel of product, no lather, DEA
I have used Silkience products in the past and have been pleased with them. So when I received a gift of this Silkience 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner, I couldn't wait to try it. Let me tell you why this product doesn't quite work for me.
This Silkience product combines both shampoo and conditioner into one bottle. The one liter bottle is large with a flip-top cap. The product has a gel-like substance to it and is clear. Silkience says their product uses natural botanicals to give hair a "clean, silky feel and look".
I do not like the consistency of this shampoo/conditioner. The product squeezes from the bottle in globs with a jelly-like consistency. It is a clear gel that wobbles slightly and is cool to the touch. It is not pleasant for me to handle.
This shampoo/conditioner does not lather. This really bothers me. I enjoy the feel of a lathering shampoo. It's part of the pampered feel of cleaning one's hair. This gel product sits in place until it is massaged into the scalp. While working the shampoo/conditioner into the hair, it doesn't feel like anything is happening. I use this and wonder if it is doing anything.
This particular Silkience product has a scent, but it's not a nice one. When I shampoo my hair, it's great when the air becomes lightly infused with a pleasant aroma. This product doesn't feel like it's working, plus there is no side benefit. It's like a non-event.
The shampoo/conditioner easily rinses out of the hair. It doesn't feel like any residue remains. My hair, while not feeling clean, doesn't feel full of soap.
After blow drying my hair, this shampoo/conditioner leaves my hair feeling soft. My hair is straight with a bit of wave, and I have no trouble styling it after using this product. In the past, I have enjoyed how Silkience products left my hair feeling, and this one provides the same results.
water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betane, polyquaternium 7, cocamide DEA, ethylene glycol mono stearate, glycerine, DL-panthenol, aloe leaf ext., tetrasodium EDTA, hydrolysed soy protein, methylchlchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, fragrance, sodium chloride, citric acid
Note: This product contains DEA. Diethanolamine (DEA) has been linked to cancer. Since DEA produces a rich lather in soap products as well as acting as an agent in lotions to maintain consistency, this is a popular ingredient in many products. I just remember that DEA is the first three initials in "death" and try to stay far away from it. (That's another reason not to use this product!)
A one liter bottle of this Silkience cost $2.50 at my local department store. The list price is just under $5.00.
This was a visit down Silkience "memory lane". I won't be finishing this bottle of Silkience 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner. While my hair looks and feels good after using it, that is not enough for me. I do not gain any enjoyment from the shampooing experience. This gel product does not feel good to touch, it does not lather, it does not provide a pleasant aroma, plus it contains DEA. It's missing the key ingredients I like in hair cleaning products.
