| bballrh52's Full Review: Rio 800 (128 MB) MP3 Player |
The Rio 800 is a decent mp3 player. It was my first mp3 player and I loved it. But there we're also some things that it could improve on.
It had many good things about it...
- PROS -
- First of all the Rio 800 looks sleek. It looked good when I showed it to my friends.
- The Rio 800 also has a great carrying case. Its black and looks like leather. Also, the case has a great belt clip; which I used often.
- The player has a huge lcd screen to see the name of the file your playing. The way the screen is set up is it has 3 rows. The top row, has the biggest letters and shows the name of the song. The middle row showed the artist name and album title. You could switch from seeing the artist to the album by clicking the 'enter' button on the player (I'll talk about that in a while). The bottom row, shows the number song it is and how much time elapsed and left. Overall the screen is great and easy to read. And you can change the contrast of it to fit your preference.
- The player has easy buttons and is easy to work with. The way it works is it has a circle with the play button on top, the fast forward and rewind (and change tracks) buttons on the left and right of the circle, and the stop button on the bottom. Its very easy to use. But what I liked the most about this design is that there is a smaller circle button inside the big circle that is the 'enter' button. This button comes very useful. When scrolling through the menu you choose a tab by clicking this button (as you would of guessed). But, the thing I liked about this button the most is if you click it, it turns on the backlight. I did this alot. when it was dark out; it came in handy. Also, there is a menu button and a record button to the bottom right of the player. And finally, there is a volume button. It is labeled with a + on the top and a - on the bottom. Obviously if you click the top (+) the volume goes up, and if you click the bottom (-) the volume goes down.
- The player has a great menu. All you do is click the menu button and the bottom row of the lcd screen gets cut off and tabs pop up. These include audio (where you can choose pop, rock, flat, ect), prefs (where you can do a lot of things. Like, you can make a custom playlist on the player, and many more), player (where you can set the time, and you can see how much memory your using up, and the battery life.), and recorder (where you can either listen to previously recorded files or record one.) Overall, it has a great menu with many features.
- 128 MB. That is about 40 songs on a regular mp3 player. But on the Rio you can choose what bitrate you would like to transfer the songs onto the player at. It can hold about 40 128 kps songs but 80 64 kps songs. The quality of teh songs will be bad, but if you turn the volume up, you won't notice much of a difference.
The player also had some bad things about it...
- CONS -
- The player is bulky. It is sleek looking, but compared to some mp3 player now, it is big. It weighs about .15 lbs which is pretty heavy for an mp3 player. But way less than a cd player.
- The voice recorder is pretty bad. It isn't clear at all. It sounds a little fuzzy.
- The sound quality is bad for the regular songs. It doesn't sound that bad. But not that good either. No where near cd quality...but no mp3 player is.
- The software that comes with the player is horrible. The RealPlayer is a ordinary jukebox but its old and needs to be repaired. Thats one Real came out with RealOne. Which is extrelemly good and works with the Rio 800.
- The battery life on the player is around 8 hrs. It claims to be around 11...but it isn't. Its good that you can recharge the battery though.
CONCLUTION
The Rio 800 is a good mp3 player and makes a great gift for anyone. Its good for its price and if you wanted to get anything better youd have to pay a lot more.
