ziggybrunosmom's Full Review: Sony VRD-MC5 2.5 in. DVD Recorder
I originally bought the SONY VRD-MCF DVD Recorder because I have an old (purchased in 2000) 8 mm. video camera. I wanted to view my home videos on my computer as well as covert them to DVD format. Rather than buy expensive and complicated software and other add-ons for my computer, this innovative piece of equipment was just what I needed. Not only could I convert my home videos to DVD and be able to watch them on the computer, I could also take my other homemade VHS tapes (whether filmed on an older camera or taped from television shows and movies) and copy them to DVD format as well by hooking up your VCR to the unit. It's a fairly small piece of equipment, and it doesn't weigh very much, so it is easy to carry. This is particularly useful for someone with an 8mm. camcorder, because normally you would have to hook the actual camera up to the television in order to watch the tape, unlike VHS and VHSC formats, which can be played through the VCR or with a tape adapter. I am really glad that I bought this product, and I have gotten a good amount of use from it so far. I still have my 8mm. camcorder, so I plan to make more home videos and convert them all to DVD format with this unit. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend money on a digital video camera.
