farbod_mm's Full Review: Sony VRD-MC5 2.5 in. DVD Recorder
So we all know the burdens of transferring our digital videos from your camcorder (specially a hard drive recording camera) to a regular DVD so you can pass them to friends and family in an easily viewable format. My wife used to complain to me all the time that I'm way behind recording the videos to DVD. Well yes, I needed my computer, an editing software, a DVD burning software and a whole lot of time to do all these things. But that all changed with this sleek Sony piece. We are using a Sony HDD camcorder with this recorder and everything is a breeze. As soon as you plug in the camcorder to the USB port, you can see all the clips on the camera, select all of them or just the ones you like to record and press a couple of buttons in the user-friendly menu. BOOM! No PC needed, no software needed, no husband needed (or at least that's what my wife says when using it!)
Getting a bit more technical: - The piece is a little bit slow processing and burning the videos. But it won't bother you. - I have not tried it with other brands of camcorders, but my Sony cam works smoothly with this piece - just plug & play. - It lets you make slideshows of your pictures along with your DVD Videos. - It also accepts multiple format of memory cards (CF, SD, xD, Memory Stick, etc.) so you can easily use your digital camera card for making a slideshow out of your pictures.
So again, if you are tired of turning the computer on and running different programs everytime you need to burn a family DVD, this piece will be a great help for fast and easy DVD creation.
