I love Hummus. The first time I ever tried it was in Israel years ago
one taste and I was hooked. I ate it every chance I could, dipping it in the homemade Pita bread it was served with it was a super special treat.

When I returned home I even tried to make it myself but was disappointed in the way it came out even though I followed the recipe my niece gave me who we had visited while we were over there.
Then I discovered a Middle Eastern grocery store just a few miles away from my house where I could buy Hummus, freshly made along with some of the other tasty foods they prepared and had for sale to all their many customers, along with their homemade Pita bread this certainly was a special treat.
Just this year I discovered Sabra Hummus right in my local super market and I've been a fan of this delicious and wholesome food product ever since. Sabra's Hummus tasted just as good as at the specialty store and cost a bit less, besides, Sabra had quite a few unusual varieties and taste temptations that I wanted to try.
But first, What is Hummus? Hummus comes from the Arabic word meaning Chickpea so basically it's made of a blend of those healthy chickpeas cooked with Tahini, (sesame seed oil) and ground together to a very fine, smooth consistency using olive oil or another type of oil, along with lemon juice, salt and garlic, then kicked up notch with a blend of spices and other flavors or herbs. The smoother the consistency the better the taste. It is used as a dip or a spread and rationally served with pita bread, flat bread or crackers.
Served throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean countries, Hummus has been described as one of the oldest known foods with a long history going back to antiquity, but, in reality, nobody really knows its actual origins though it is known to be a type of food that was eaten in Palestine before 4000 BC.
Now it has become a most popular food item which is extremely in vogue here in the U.S. It's served in many Middle Eastern and vegetarian restaurants, since it is a vegan food and useful for those who eat that restricted type of diet. Hummus is high in vitamin C and iron and is a good source of protein and fiber
Yes, it's all good.
And quite delicious too. Sabra makes 13 different flavors of Hummus and though I haven't tried them all I have tried quite a few
to tell you the truth I haven't found one that I didn't like but, by far, my favorites are the Hummus with Garlic and Hummus with Roasted Pine Nuts.
When you open the container the first thing you notice is a little topping in the center of the Hummus featuring the flavor or garnish you have purchased
in the case of the garlic you will find a dollop of crushed garlic in the middle of the Hummus and a little oil. You then have a choice of how you want to savor the flavor, you can dip your cracker or Pita bread, right into the garlic along with your serving of hummus or you can mix everything together so that the garlic is mixed throughout. I usually do that with the garlic since it can be quite strong to eat alone with just a little of the Hummus. In the case of the pine nuts I usually eat a little of that pine nut topping along with each bite of the Hummus until it is all gone. The hummus remaining in the tub still retains the flavor. The garlic flavor is a bit strong but I love it. I don't think it is strong enough to keep the vampires away though.
Sabra's Hummus just tastes better to me than the other brands I have found in the grocery stores. Its consistency is just so smooth and rich
the combined flavors blended together provide a really great taste sensation. We eat it usually as a side dish or an appetizer and I serve it with Pita bread I've sliced in quarters or eighths. But just recently I've discovered I really like it with Matzo, slightly salted Matzo. The crispness of the Matzo along with the smooth creamy Sabra Garlic Hummus with that roasted garlic taste is the perfect compliment, creating a complete and delicious combination
at least in my humble opinion!
As far as the nutritional values; In two tablespoons there are 70 Calories, 5 grams of Fat, no Trans Fats, no Cholesterol, 120 mg of Sodium and 3 grams of Carbs. 1 gram of protein.
The price of small tub can vary at about $3.00 but often I find special twofer deals, buy one/get one free or two for $5.00.
