| maggsmomm's Full Review: Safety 1st 3 Level Booster Seat |
You know it's time to stash the high chair when your tot can pick it up and move it from place to place as if it were a traveling feeding station.
It was time for her to be stationary at meal time and the only way to do this was to keep stacking phone books on the dining room chairs, or buy a booster seat.
Since there are very few boosters on the market, I decided to go with a name I trusted and a chair I could easily return if my expectations weren't met.
"Doodle" (her recent nickname due to the wonderful drawings she has done in crayon & lipstick all over my home) chose the Safety 1st 3 Level Booster Seat . Probably because it was blue and white, she isn't one for a lot of color. I liked the price and the fact it was DISHWASHER compatible.
Features:
This booster seat has three height adjustments for your little (or big) one. The lowest height is perfect for toddlers that are too small for a chair but too big for a high chair. The tallest height is perfect for those just graduating to booster seats.
The Safety 1st 3 Level Booster Seat has a tray, so it can be used in the living room or at the table. it is easily removable, and stores nicely. I have never once used it, once the high chair was gone, doodle wanted to eat like a big girl. Now if she'd only actually eat instead of just sit.
The seat is wide, comparable to the "old" ones you will see at restaurants. Any size child will fit comfortably here. It is plastic, no cushion for your tots bottom. I find this to be a PLUS, no extra pieces to remove for clean up.
Safety FIRST!
The seat itself has a lap belt for those wiggly little critters that can't seem to sit through a meal. This comes in handy at my house because after two bites, doodle is done and ready to sprint into the living room to play. This is a nice feature for those children who are smaller and may try to escape. It keeps them securely in place.
The belt has a "pop-fastner" that is released like most lap belts, by pushing the sides and the lock releases.
The chair has rubber grips on the bottom to keep it from moving. This is a nice safety precaution because without these "feet" this chair would be on the floor.
There is also a safety restraint to attach to your chairs. It loops around the bottom of chairs to keep your tot and their booster from moving and hitting the ground. I didn't use mine at first, the chair in itself seemed to be secure with it's rubber feet and of course doodle ended up on the kitchen floor. I suggest using this feature.
Other Interesting Facts...
The booster seat has a lot of space underneath it when used at the 2nd and 3rd heights. This is the perfect place for doodle and even maybe your tot to store their food. I have found many a lunch and dinner hidden under this seat. If they are acting exceptional while at the table and this isn't the norm, they are probably stashing food for later.
This seat claims it can be used when traveling. I find it to be quite bulky and not at all compact enough to take with me, especially when every place you eat has their own booster seats. But there is a handle, which I use to pick it up (child in tow) and sit her in the floor. (Yes, she is still small enough for me to get a handle on!)
The Safety 1st 3 Level Booster Seat does disassemble. My friends, who I have recommended this chair to, have problems adjusting the height and taking it apart. I think they are crazy. All it takes is a quick tug on both sides of the plastic tabs and the seat releases to be taken off or to adjust the height. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, in fact I only needed to look at the box in order to assemble it and disassemble it.
Quality & Durability:
I will admit, although I do love this chair, that the plastic could be a bit more sturdy. At first look it seems flimsy and you may question the safety and durability of this booster seat. Fear not, looks are deceiving. It is made this way so you can adjust the height and disassemble it for easy clean up and storage.
This seat is dishwasher safe. My household will not purchase ANY product that isn't. Doodle is messy and I do not have hours on end to spend washing her things by hand. Be warned, after taking the seat apart, it will take up your entire dishwasher if using the tray. If only using the seat, your going to use the bottom half of your dishwasher. I wouldn't bet on washing anything else when you wash this, unless it's "top shelf" only dish ware.
The Safety 1st 3 Level Booster Seat can be washed by hand and it is very simple to clean. Food, grease, whatever slides right off this plastic with a swipe on a warm, soapy cloth.
Maggie's Thought's:
Doodle loves her booster chair. It makes her feel like a big girl. The bright blue color is what first attracted her to this product, and it is suitable for any gender. It is lightweight and she can carry it around the house, like she does with everything that is "hers."
She would like accommodations that are more plush, such as a padded seat, however I find NO CUSHIONS to be a PLUS, not a drawback. Less clean up, and I have yet to see a booster in a restaurant with padded seating accommodations.
Mom's Thought's:
The price, quality, and durability all make this a good purchase overall. I have no complaints with this chair. It has withstood the doodle test, and has survived. I wish I could say that for her other "things."
Since we do not need a traveling booster, this is not a problem, which may be the only drawback to this chair for some parents. For the rest of us, it is a steal that grows with your child. I say buy one, or two depending on how many "Doodles" you have!
