| victoriasmum's Full Review: Safety 1st Portable Bed Rail |
is exactly what my daughter said when we put her new Safety First Portable Bed Rail on her bed a few nights ago. I had been using another(Safety First bed rail with flashlight)and was not happy with it. I purchased the Safety First Portable Bed Rail from Toys R Us and paid $34.99CDN. The box was nice and small and easy to get home because this particular rail can be shortened for travel purposes. When I got it home it was completely assembled and only needed to be pulled open to it widest position. You simply depress 2 metal 'buttons' at the same time and pull it open till you hear a click, this means it is locked into place and ready for use. To shorten it for travel you do the same thing and press the rail together until it snaps into the short position. Please note that the box says adjustable in length from 25 to 42 inches, this is actually not as it sounds, it means its 25inches in travel mode and 42inches in in-use mode, you should not use it unless it is full extended and locked into place.
The rail frame is white metal, the legs that you place between the box spring and mattress to hold it in place are white plastic, the mesh is white with a blue edging around it. The mesh is very soft and gives slightly so a child is not rolling into a hard object when against it in bed. The Safety First Portable Bed Rail folds down beside the bed when not is use and then you simple pull it up and lock it into place by pushing down on it while it is straight up, I would always be sure it is locked into place by checking each side individually after you have put it up. The fold down feature is nice for a couple of reasons, when the rail is folded down during the day it is out of the way of play, this ensures that it is not experiencing undue stress and wear of a toddler 'playing' with it. Also I lie with my daughter until she falls asleep and with the fold down feature I just put it up when she is asleep and I am leaving the room, the same thing for when she wakes during the night, I can go in and easily get it out of the way to comfort her.
I find that the rail stays safely and effectively in place and am confident that my daughter is safe when asleep. Please remember to follow manufacturers instructions and do not use with infants or on a bed set up any way OTHER than a mattress and boxspring combination.
