Safety 1st - Winnie the Pooh Walker With Tray: Great Fun For Our Twin Grandsons

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Fun for kids, handy for parents and grandparents, very sturdy and safe.

Cons:Kids can remove the top toy tray if it is in the open position.

The Bottom Line: This walker is a quality product that gives excellent value for the money.

We live in an old grange, in process of being converted to a home. As such, we have 4000 square feet of hard wood floors; a perfect environment for little ones playing in walkers. When our twin grandsons were about six months old, we purchased two of the Safety 1st - Winnie the Pooh Walkers With Tray.

This purchase came as a result of a great deal of research and hours of online shopping. I wanted to get quality walkers that would be safe and durable. I didn't want to spend a fortune, either. Finally I settled on these walkers as they appeared to be just what we needed; safe play areas that could double as a snack area when needed.

The first time we put the babies in these walkers their legs were too short to reach the floor; even on the lowest setting. My grandsons are tiny people; their parents are both right around five feet tall and it is unlikely that the twins will be much taller than their parents. Still, even though they couldn't push themselves around, they enjoyed sitting in the walkers and playing with the toys fastened to the top tray.

Now, at age seventeen months, they are proficient at darting around with their walkers. They play bumper cars with each other, and enjoy it when an adult will push them back with a foot so they can race forward to do it all over again. When I have them for the weekend, they go into their walkers when they first wake up. This gives me the chance to get their breakfast ready and prevents them from being the destructo-twins and ransacking the entire house.

On an average day, they probably spend about an hour in their walkers. Snack time is usually in the walkers rather than the high chairs, as the snack tray is very easy to use and clean. Plus, they like to munch on cheerios when they are playing in their walkers.

What I Like About This Walker

My first priority in baby equipment is safety. I shudder when I think about the old four-legged walker I used when my son was a baby; that type is so dangerous! Fortunately he never got hurt in it. That said, I am very happy with the safety of this product. The walkers are very stable and well-made with no sharp edges.

Quality is another facet I consider in a product. I have no complaints with the quality of the Safety 1st - Winnie the Pooh Walker With Tray. The bottom line is that this walker is very well-made. We have not had any trouble with the wheels not rolling, or with the walkers being unstable in any manner. The bottom tray is firmly attached, and the seat cushion is strongly-made.

Ease of use is another thing I think about. The top tray that holds the toys removes easily with one hand; you simply pull on the latch underneath the tray and swivel it out of the way so the bottom tray can be accessed. If you want to completely remove the toy tray, you just continue swiveling it until it comes off. I generally prefer to leave the toy trays attached and simply open a triangular area of the bottom tray between the two halves of the top tray; this way the babies can continue to play with the toys while they are munching on cheerios or some other sort of dry snack.

These walkers are more than walkers; they are favorite past times. My grandsons love standing by the walkers and playing with the toys on the top. An easy push on one results in awesome children's songs, and the boys love to start the music and then dance along. It becomes a competition with them (as most everything does) to get a song playing and then switch it up by pushing the knob on the other walker.

The attached toys include a mirror, various spinny things, and the carousel-appearing button that starts the music playing. The toys are colorful and firmly attached to the tray.

One Negative

I have found that the top tray will disengage when it is in the open position if the baby pushes on it. The first time this happens each time we use the walkers it becomes a game. As soon as an adult puts it back on, the kiddo knocks it back off. I would be happier if there was a more secure latch to avoid this from happening, but it is not all that serious of a problem on the grand scale of things.

Final Thoughts

If I remember right, we paid about $60 a piece for these walkers. I can boldly say that they were worth every penny.

As always, if you allow your children to play in walkers it is critical to be careful of household hazards such as stairs. While this particular walker is very sturdy and safe, it would be very dangerous if a child was able to tumble down a set of stairs in it.
