Pros:decent pool, loose slots, monorail access
Cons:decor, hecklers, overall feeling
The Bottom Line: Don't go unless you absolutely have to
For those on an extreme budget, the sahara would be a good deal. For others, its better to go for harrahs for a little bit more or any other hotel and casino.
As a first time visiter to Vegas, I decided to go against my friends suggestions and take the cheapest place to spend money on other things. Bad idea, the Sahara has rooms worse than your local inn, people that are paid to bother you in the lobby and sell you things, and an all around feeling of cheap, dirty, and trashy.
The facilities have been around for a better part of this half of the century, so they are of another generation where luxury was defined as less then adaquate in modern times. The windows in the rooms are very small, but the curtains give you the impression of a much larger window. The decor is also from another era, were fake gold and gold stained furnishings were very popular. The bathrooms and bedding were of motel 6 quality, and the dinning facilities were similar to waffle house. The entrance of the casino is guarded by a heckler, the kind of degenerate that bothers people by asking many questions and finally attempting to sell you something. I found him to be entertaining, witty, and very rude usually, and he will make himself noticed as you make your way out the doors of the Sahara. Overall, I found myself feeling like a dirty trucker when I had to go back for a nights rest. The Sahara was the last stop on the northbound monorail, which usually had no one on it except for me. I understand why people who don't have to stay here will not, because its the worst choice on the strip.
