Introduction
Hello, I’m CindyJean and I’m a nailbite-aholic! Thankfully I can say I’m in recovery right now, I’ve gone three weeks without biting my nails.
My road to recovery began when my teenage (and pre-teen) nieces were visiting and I noticed them painting their nails all the time. Well, with four teenage girls there’s bound to be one whose nails need touched up.
I had always admired the look of nail polish, but had never been one to wear it because of my nail biting problem. I had no, and I mean NO, nails on my fingertips because I bit them so much. I’ve been biting them for as long as I can remember!
I decided that maybe the key to not biting them would be to paint them, which I did. I can happily say that since the first time I painted my nails three weeks ago I haven’t bitten once.
Why Did I Buy It?
I wish I could say something to make myself seem less, well…cheap, but the reason I bought Sally Hansen Hard as Nails to start out my experiment was because I saw it available at a local closeout store for $.99. The price was right, so I bought a bottle of Shimmering Lilac Frost (metallic light purplish pink).
Actually, I shouldn’t say it was ‘just’ the price that made me buy Sally Hansen Hard as Nails nail polish. It was the price versus the reputation. I have heard many people say that Sally Hansen products are decent quality for the price, so to see a quality brand for $.99 seemed like a good deal to me.
Why Am I Now Loyal to Sally Hansen?
I mentioned it before, and I’m not ashamed of it (not too much anyway)…I’m cheap! I like to save a buck when I can.
After having used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails for over a week with no chipping problems (reapplied only once during this time) whatsoever. I liked the way Tough as Nails wore on my fingers because I am a full-time mommy who lives a very ‘hands-on’ life. My hands and nails are not treated gently, so for a nail polish not to chip at all was fantastic!
I was a bit bored with my Shimmering Lilac Frost and was ready for a change. I decided to borrow a bottle of my niece’s Wet ‘N Wild brand nail polish for a bit of a change. I am not kidding, but less than 24 hours after applying the Wet ‘N Wild brand of polish (available at most Wal-Mart stores for under $.99) I had chips on my nails. I wasn’t doing anything different than I had with Sally Hansen Tough as Nails, there was just a dramatic difference in the wear of the polish.
Thankfully, when I went back to the closeout store they had a few other color selections of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails polish still available. I purchased two more bottles—Red Hot Cream (deep, dark red) and Amorous Amethyst Cream (purplish brown w/ a hint of pink).
I have since been to Wal-Mart to check on other drug store brands of nail polish and have found a few in the same price range as Sally Hansen. I decided that since I already knew what to expect from Sally Hansen Hard as Nails that I would stick with what I knew. I bought one more bottle, a new color called Magenta Minx (metallic bright pink).
With a great price (less than $2.50 at Wal-Mart), a decent selection of colors--though it was tough finding a shade of pink that I like, but that may be more related to the season than the product line—and fantastic wear, why wouldn’t I stay loyal to Sally Hansen Hard as Nails?
What’s Inside the Bottle(a.k.a. Ingredient List)
Normally I like to put an ingredient list on my beauty product reviews, but of course this time my husband threw away the packaging that I had left on my kitchen counter.
Thanks to a fellow Epinionator (tiasmom), I was able to locate an online source for ingredients to Sally Hansen Hard as Nails polish. They are as follows:
