It was the day from hell...
In the week from hell....
During the month from hell.
I needed a break. Life was very frustrating. In every direction I had turned, even the simplest of tasks had become severely frustrating.
It was during a brief break in the stormy clouds of life that I decided to have a few precious hours alone.
My husband had decided to go to the Home Depot. Some flooring had to be put down and they had a no interest loan for the longest time offered ever in the history of the store as far as we knew.
All of the way there, I thought of the glee I would have being alone in the store shopping and doing whatever I wanted while my husband did his duty at HIS store.
The trip to the city was rather uneventful. The day was bright but not sunny. I did not care. I was going to spend a couple of hours alone with no interruptions.
PURE HEAVEN!
I dropped my husband off, waved goodby and hurried off to the shopping plaza where I planned to make the most use of my time. The plaza was only about 5 minutes away, so everything looked great.
I pulled easily out into traffic. Immediately, I was forced to slam on the brakes, until I squealed to an abrupt stop.
In front of me was a bland new Toyota (yes, I MEAN BLAND) with brake lights leering at me evilly.
I attempted to pass the stopped car only to be jolted by the wind of other vehicles passing by instead.
I forced a smile and decided to be patient.
Surely the person would start up soon.
Yes, they were moving. Very slowly, but moving.
I looked at my speedometer. 10 MPH. Wow, we were moving.
As I tried to pass the person driving this bland car (who I had now determined was a woman), I was alarmed by acid in my stomach rising as this woman drifted over until she was controlling TWO LANES!
I beeped my horn, and she continued to block the way in both lanes.
I checked to see that we were now doing 12 MPH.
Five nail biting minutes passed and finally we approached a red light. The woman drifted into her lane again, and I attempted to pass her on the right.
Once again the wind jolted my car as others passed this insane driver.
Suddenly, I was confronted with leering brake lights again. This woman who was quickly graduating to nutcase had slammed into a sudden stop TEN CAR LENGTHS BEHIND THE RED LIGHT.
By the time the light turned green, we did not make it to the light until it was red again.
By now, I was beginning to have serious thoughts of ramming this idiots car until there was nothing left. Surely she would turn!
After two more lights, I turned to see HOME DEPOT STILL in my rear view mirror and looked back just in time to see this maniac in the bland car at a COMPLETE STOP AT A GREEN LIGHT.
The lanes were all blocked by speeding cars and I was locked in hell behind this woman who should be banned from all roads in civilization.
I managed to get through the green light at a whopping 9 MPH when I gunned the motor to pass her in the other lane.
At that moment, she veered into the center taking up both lanes so I could not get by.
I was foaming at the mouth. If I did not get away from this woman immediately, I was afraid I would lose my mind.
I had two lights left before I was at the plaza. The speed had rocketed to 15 MPH and at last I breathed easier.........just in time to slam on the brakes, FIFTEEN CAR LENGTHS BEFORE A GREEN LIGHT.
I lost it. My hand almost went through the steering wheel as I blasted the horn.
Completely nonplussed by my actions, both lanes still blocked, the woman continued throught the light as it approached red.
I followed hot on her tail.
At last, I could make a left turn into the plaza and THANK GOD that lunatic was going straight.
Yeah, right. That is what YOU think.
Just as I began to pick up speed, the bland car from hell wandered across two lanes to butt in front of me, my car just missing her by inches.
No amount of blasting my horn changed anything.
We approached the left hand turn light at 10 MPH, only to slow down to 1 MPH, just enough time for me to make the turn and then STOP in the middle of it, unable to enter the road.
Yep, you guessed it. She stopped while she decided where to go LEAVING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOURLANE HIGHWAY!!!!
At last she moved saving me from death (which seemed more welcome at this point), only to stop at the stop sign and then cut in front of two other drivers who had the right of way.
By now, I was convinced I had an ulcer.
I took the first chance I could to veer into the huge parking lot. I would park anywhere just to be away from this woman. This hell bent, possessed woman.
I was delirious with a nervous tick developing in my neck. I swear I felt drool slipping from the corners of my mouth.
Wildly I looked around and saw that bland vomit colored car heading ever so slowly across the opposite end of the parking lot.
I let out a breath. FINALLY I was away from that horrid female. I more relaxedly found a space a short way from the store I was heading for and steered my car into the space, my hands still shaking from the stress of the previous trip there.
Because it was such a bad angle, I had to back up to straighten up the car.
I threw the car into reverse and began backing up .......
......only to see inches behind me the door of a vomit colored car with a woman at the wheel stopped perpendicularly to me to block me completely in and not going anywhere!!!!!!!
How in the world did she get there? Why ME? The parking lot was so huge, she would have to break the sound barrier to make it there so fast.
I began to shake violently, rage building up to the point of explosion.
I rolled down my window and began to scream at the top of my lungs that if this demonic woman did not leave immediately that I was going to ram into her car and then I began to shrilly utter unintelligible words and incoherent threats, having long before lost the ability to speak.
I put my head down on the wheel and shouted until I had no voice left.
35 MINUTES to get to a place that should have only taken 5 MINUTES!!!
When I turned around, I did not see where she went, but I suspect that the earth developed a fissure and she returned to the place of her origin.........
That day will forever be in my memory every time I wear the SALLY HANSEN NAIL PRISIMS that I got in the store I barely remember walking into to recover from my horrific ride.
WHAT IS THIS POLISH LIKE?
Back when I first started using this polish, it was very hard to find. The only two places I found it were at CVS stores. No other store had any available.
Since that infamous day, I have found it to be widely available in drugstores and department stores such as Target, Walmart, KMART, larger grocery stores, etc.
What attracted me to it was not the way it looked, but the promise it made. I took my first bottle outside in the car to try it on, and it was only after I saw it in the sunlight that I saw how amazing this stuff really is. In the store, it looks kind of boring, and not really like it will be anything really special at all. Don't be fooled.
SALLY HANSEN'S NAIL PRISMS is an interesting polish. It comes in two different types- irridescent rainbow colors, which are tinted polish with a 3D rainbow base- similar to what a CD or CDROM looks like in sunlight.
The other type is a 3D color spectrum which changes from 3 to 5 colors depending on which one you get. These are very deep metallic jewel tones.
Here is what the Sally Hansen site says:
"Color in Motion!

Available while supplies last."
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS POLISH
I grew so fond of this polish that I managed to find sales on it enough so that I have all but one color in the collection.
It is hard to find as it is always out of stock locally, but you can buy it online at www.sallyhansen.com as well as other places.
Each polish has different characteristics depending on the color used. This is typical of paint, however, and to be expected.
The polish takes a long time to dry, which is a pain. It dries shiny, and very uniform. Some colors chip quickly and others last for many days.
The bottle is a cloudy sparkly bottle with a long gold handle and other bottles are clear. The bottles are not consistent, it must be different lots of polish made are in different bottles. Sometimes the cloudy bottles have a coating on them making it harder to open and close them. The clearer ones tend to be better. I had to return one of the coated bottles because it kept getting stuck and I could not open it.
COLORS AVAILABLE
Here is a list of the colors and my rating of them:
RAINBOW COLORS
PURPLE DIAMOND
DIAMOND
PINK ROSE DIAMOND
These are the rainbow colors. They are a rainbow in every bottle. The shimmer in them is 3D and like CDROMs. They have rainbow lines that go down every nail. You will not see this until you actually apply the polish. In the store it looks kind of dull.
The interesting part about these is that each nail is uniform. The colors of the spectrum go in stripes down each nail the same. It is truly fascinating stuff.
The colors are lightly tinted in purple or pink, and the diamond is clear, but the rainbows are the same in each.
These tend to stay on for 5 to 6 days, but with a great topcoat, they can last up to two weeks.
OTHER COLORS
GARNET LAPIS(purple blue)
EMERALD AMETHYST (lime green maroon)
SOUTH SEA PEARL (white with pastel rainbow colors in it)
AMBER RUBY (most awesome- five different colors in it)
RUBY SAPPHIRE(purple-red and blue)
These colors are changeable with viewing direction. Bright sunlight brings out more colors than artificial light. The Amber Ruby is the longest lasting, with the Ruby Sapphire chipping fastest in my experience.
The colors are metallic and intense, but best if applied in a very thick single coat, or two medium coats. Thin coats give very sheer coverage.
Because of the long drying time, do NOT attempt to put these one unless you have the time to wait. Excellent topcoat helps, but again, drying time is an hour, completely dry takes overnight sometimes. I have had impressions appear in them even when the polish appeared dry when I went to bed.
This paint is affected by heat and humidity as well.
I got the ingredients for this from one of the sites that sells it. The label on the bottle has ink that comes off really easily and it is unreadable.
Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride Copolymer, Nitrocellulose, Triphenyl Phosphate, Trimethyl Pentanyl Diisobutryane, Stearalkonium Benotite, Diacetone Alcohol, Ethyl Tosylamide, Sucrose Acetate Isobutryate, Tosylamide Epoxy Resin, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Camphor, Etocrylane, Benzophenone-1, Citric Acid, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Corn Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholecaliferol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Calcium Pantothenate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Calendula Flower Oil. May contain: Silica, Magnesium Fluoride, Mica, Guanine, Titanium Dioxide, Aluminum Powder, Chromium Oxide, Red No. 6 Lake, Ferric Aluminum Ferrocyanide, Red No. 34 Lake, Red No. 7 Lake.
FINAL COMMENTS
Despite the inconveniences of applying this polish, I really love it. All other polishes look boring in comparison. You do not have to change the polish as often, as it will easily acquire the colors you wear it with, in most cases.
The price is steep full retail- $5.99. I managed to find it for $3 at first, but I rarely see it for that any more. It is quite a hot item, and I get the impression it is limited time only. That is the sound of it from the Sally Hansen site (www.sallyhansen.com).
It you want it, buy it now, because it may not be around much past Christmas.
Despite the long drying time, the difficulty with chipping in some colors without topcoat, I still give it 5 stars because it is really truly fascinating polish. You will find yourself spending lots of time when you are in the car, or able to look at your hands, gazing at your fingernails as you tilt your hands in the sunlight. It is really fun stuff.
