First of all, I need to admit that I have a slight addiction to jackets, and I have a quiver of them because it seems like I need a jacket for every potential weather condition for each season.
I have owned the Salomon 900 Hoodie for about four years, and it is easily one of my favorite and most frequently worn jackets. It is a softshell full zip hoodie that can be used as a layering piece or as an outer shell. I typically wear this jacket in the fall, winter and spring, so I actually get three seasons out of it.
The Salomon 900 Hoodie is loose fitting ("freestyle" fit), and it is made out of softshell. It is also lined with fleece, and it has two side pockets that zip. It is water resistant and air permeable, which means that it is breathable (although I wouldn't use this for running or cross country skiing). I typically use this in the spring/fall as an outer shell, or for VERY cold days, I wear the jacket as a midlayer when skiing (with a shell jacket). Although the softshell jacket is not very thick/heavy, it can become a little bulky, so I only use the jacket as a layering piece when it is very cold.
Although I've had my jacket for several years, it has worn extremely well. I am rather rough on my clothing (I have a tendancy to get stains, rips, etc.), but this jacket still looks brand new. I also have never had a problem with the zipper, which is saying a lot, because that always seems to be the first item that breaks on my jackets. I purchased the "absolute brown" color, which might be why it has worn so well (it covers up all those coffee stains). I have also seen some of the other colors which I like too, although black is probably my favorite color because it is the "sharpest" color.
Overall, I have found that this softshell hoodie is a great item. If you are looking for a softshell hoodie to include in your closet, this is highly recommended.
