Around the world skiers have been switching to snowboarding to hit terrain parks and get air. The evolution of snow sports was seeing the masses divide choosing either to snowboard and hit the parks, or ski and get the powder. Salomon however changed that with this revolutionary ski the 1080. This ski provides a middle ground for the youth of today who are all about going big, but would like to continue skiing. I myself purchased these skis about a year ago and I have been in euphoria ever since. Most of my friends are boarders and I loved going into the parks with them and getting air, but I had skied all my life and it was just second nature. I was stuck in the middle of a situation, which would soon be solved by the 1080.
Before these skis were out I had racing skis and it was pure pandemonium trying to land a switch on tricks like 540’s. (Also going into a park with racing skis on was pure taboo to begin with.) Now, however, with the twin tip design of the 1080-landing switch is no problem. Also possible with the twin tips are riding and taking off switch, which was another problem with racing skis.
For those skiers who are worried about the problems you get with skiing outside the terrain park that come with brands like Line you needn’t worry. I found the skis to hold up well in all conditions I put it up against, which included ice, powder, and some choppy stuff. I would give them a 9/10 on performance in the different snows. In run types I found that the ski tended to perform best in diamonds and double diamonds, but was still very skiable on blues and challenging greens. For challenge adaptability I would give this a 10/10. I also found this ski could well adjust to chutes, moguls, glades, and of course the terrain park. In terrain types I would give it a 10/10 because it took everything I threw at it. I also found the ski to hold up well at various speeds.
I would strongly recommend this ski to any new-schoolers looking to stick with skiing, but wants to hit the parks. All though it held up well in all challenge levels I would recommend this ski to people who will be skiing in the terrain parks and diamonds. Unlike other skis of its kind it remains versatile, which drew me to this ski. I love it and everyone looking to find a trick ski with all mountain capabilities has found the ski for them.
