Ill swear by this little camera case from Samsonite.
Designed for compact 35mm, APS or digital cameras, this case offers protection and storage space for your camera, space for film or other accessories along with an adjustable shoulder strap and a belt loop on the back of the case.
Available in different colors (black and blue), the Samsonite Carrying Case measures about 3 inches wide, 5 inches high and roughly 2 ½ inches deep. The case has two separate compartments, the main interior pocket for the camera (which measures roughly 3x5x2) and a smaller front pocket for film or other camera accessories (memory cards for example). A top section that folds over the top of the case and locks down with the use of a clasp covers both of the interior pockets.
The shoulder strap on this case is designed not to be removed, but it is quite easy to unthread the strap and take it off. I usually do this when I am taking the case (and the camera) hiking and I want to run my backpack strap through the belt loop on the back of the case and not have the shoulder strap flapping all over the place. This is also a handy feature if you want to thread your belt through the back and wear the camera on your hip. If the shoulder strap is on the bag, it makes it much more awkward to wear comfortably wear.
The materials used to make the case are resilient synthetics that can take a lot of beating and are water repellent. This doesnt mean that you can throw the camera off a cliff in the case or drop it into a lake in the case, but through normal to heavy use, the case will take a beating and still protect your camera. Ive had one case for more than 5 years now and other than some wear on the corners of it and a bit more play in the fabric, the case looks the same as the one I purchased for my partner last year.
The water repellent feature is nice to have with the top flapped locked over the interior pockets, you dont need to worry about having to cover up the case if you are out in the rain as long as the flap is over the pocket, water isnt going to get into the bag and on your camera (even so, I always keep the camera in a ziploc bag when Im going to be anywhere there is a chance of rain).
When its gotten really dirty from extended hikes or accidental drops in mud, I have thrown this case into the washing machine and dryer and it has come just fine.
Final Thoughts
The Samsonite Carrying Case really is a durable case for compact cameras (35mm, APS or digital) that wont let anyone down with its performance I wouldnt have been using them for over 5 years if they havent been protecting my cameras.
