Syntax's Full Review: Samsung BlackJack II Smartphone
I was offered a phone at discount when I switched cell companies. I decided to go with the Blackjack II. It seemed well enough, but I ended up using my old phone reflashed to the new company.
Windows mobile OS just isnt what its supposed to be when its running on a device without a touch screen. Controls were a bit confusing with the control pad on the phone. As a phone, its great, as a pda it lacks in control.
Pros
On the bright side, if you tether this phone to a laptop using a data plan, data speeds from this device are faster than alot of others, it was faster than my Treo 750 by a good bit.
Responsiveness to opening applications was quick, the price after rebate was only $99.
As a phone only the device worked great, but I use my phone as much for PDA as I do for phone service. So I wasnt sure this device was for me.
Another plus is the thin size of the phone, small and easy to carry compared to most PDA phones.
Cons
So on the downside of this phone, theres no touch screen, that was a biggie coming from using a Treo 650 and a Treo 750/755. Without the touch screen I found myself fumbling around to navigate the menus and icons on the desktop.
The only plus to the navigation was the scrolling dial, similar to the ball on a blackberry, but even more like the menu controls of an ipod, you touch and slide you finger in a circle.
Out of the box the phone did not have ICS, or Internet Connection Sharing enabled, there was no icon. I had to go online and download an application to enable this feature. Apparently the phone company decided not to include this feature on this model phone.
