Very dissatisfied!

Purchased this dishwasher in April 2010 to replace a very loud, old machine (Whirlpool?) originally installed in our 20-yr-old house. The old machine cleaned well and was easy to load but started to have some leaking problems. Looked at dishwashers for almost 2 years and decided on the Samsung DMR78 because I liked it's appearance, adjustability, and it was very quiet--49 decibles. After 3 months of frustration and disappointment, it was picked up today. We truly hated this machine.
Cleaning ability...poor. No matter what cycle is selected (heavy, normal, quick, etc.) I have to check each dish, cup and utensil because something doesn't get clean. I'm back to to rinsing everything off first before putting them in the dishwasher--more time and water wasted--and I still have to check each item when I empty the machine. We could load our old dishwasher to the hilt and all would be clean, but if something is overlapping just a little in the Samsung, it doesn't get clean.
Loadability...extremely frustrating. The tines in the lower rack are so close together that it's hard to load larger items (bowls, casserole dishes, etc.) The items usually have to lay upside down, allowing only 3 or 4 large items, and maybe several smaller things tucked in between to be loaded--very inefficient for such a large rack. The upper rack has a funky step-down design. Other than the two outside rows, that step-design makes items flop over in all directions in the two middle areas. Like the bottom rack, the tines are too close together so plastic storage bowls can't stand upright between the tines. They have to be loaded upside down which wastes space. The adjustable tines seem useless. If you move the tines to fit one thing, other items go off-kilter.
The bottom grids in the lower rack and side openings on the upper rack are too big and smaller items can easily slip through. The design of both racks resulted in less items per load, more loads per week (4-5 times now versus once a week), and more water used. Energy efficient? Not in my opinion.
