The Bottom Line: Samsung has proven a good manufacturer with this dryer. Great machine.

I had not seriously considered Samsung as a dryer brand until I had the opportunity to help do laundry at my brother's house. And we’ve been doing laundry!! This year has been a challenge for our family. Many of us have had surgery, so we've been pitching in to help one another. It's been a pleasure using this Samsung 7.3 cu. ft. Super-Capacity Dryer – model # DV328AG.

Description

This is a beautiful dryer, and the matching washer sits beside it (the models are white in color). They definitely add class to the laundry room. The washer and dryer can be stacked to save space (an optional stacking kit needs to be purchased, plus the dryer legs have to be removed). Plus, the dryer door can be mounted to swing open either left or right. Another customization option is that this dryer can be set on an optional pedestal, which has a slide-out drawer.

The dryer has a flat top surface as well as stainless steel construction. The controls are located on the front of the machine. Some of the special features include a drying rack that sits inside the dryer (for items such as sneakers, sweaters and stuffed animals), and an automatic sensor to reduce drying time. The dryer also has a child lock.

There are five temperature levels (extra low, low, medium low, medium, high). Dryness levels include: damp dry, less dry, normal dry, more dry, very dry. Nine drying cycles include: wrinkle release, normal sensor dry, heavy duty sensor dry, towels sensor dry, perm press sensor dry, delicates sensor dry, freshen up, time dry (manual dry), air fluff (manual dry).

This particular model is white, and measures 27" wide x 30 1/4" deep x 39" high. It weighs 125 pounds. It has a three-way venting system and is a gas dryer.

Our Experiences

I love this Samsung dryer so much that I’m giving serious consideration to replacing my aging washer and dryer with Samsung models. I’m very impressed with the performance of this dryer. It does an excellent job at not only drying but in saving time as well as being energy efficient. It’s a smart machine!

It’s a good thing my brother and sister-in-law did replace their older dryer with this model. My niece also helps to do the laundry. Unlike me, however, she let the older dryer … run and run and run. If she thought even one piece of clothing was still damp, she would set the entire load to drying yet again. Needless to say, she shrunk a lot of clothes. The constant refrain was, “My favorite shirt (pants, shorts, pajamas) are too small.” And then my niece’s name would be bellowed throughout out the house.

My niece is saved with this dryer. I love the auto-sensor feature, too. I can’t believe how much time this Samsung dryer saves us. I used to have to wait and wait for clothing to dry with the old machine. This Samsung dryer automatically senses the dampness of the load and calibrates the time for efficient auto shutoff when the load is dry. Watching the LCD display, I can see the time adjusting. For example, one moment the remaining time will read 12 minutes, and the next moment the time display will show 7 minutes.

Not only is the LCD display easy to read, the control knob is easy to turn. The knob glides along and stops as if a tumbler is falling into position at the desired setting. We haven’t had reason to use the plastic dryer rack yet, but it’s a nice option that I’m sure will come in handy.

The lint trap is unlike any design I’ve seen. I’m used to the dryer lint traps that look like a trough. This lint trap is a vertical, straight screen. It easily slides in and out of the slot near the front rim. Be careful not to jostle it too much though. We remove the screen and hold it over a trash can. Shaking the screen releases most of the debris.

LOAD SIZE: This is a large capacity machine. It can easily accommodate a queen-size comforter, and it beautifully dries a load of towels.

NOISE: This machine is very quiet. The only time I’m really conscious of it is if I’m drying a load that has a lot of zippers or snaps on the clothing (fastenings that would hit the drum as the load is drying).

CONTROLS: The controls are easy to set and use. The LCD display is also bright and easy to read. The knob dial can be turned either left or right (it’s not one-directional). Also, if you have a drying sequence you use all the time, you can program in the drying specifications so that the drying cycle activates with the click of a button. There is also a pause button in case you need to pause the drying cycle.

DRYING RACK: There are two recessed areas on the dryer’s back wall that the rack fits into. The rack sits suspended in the dryer with the items resting atop it. Use the timed dry cycle with the rack. The user guide gives drying times for various items. Ex: Foam Rubber Pillows (Air Fluff), Washable Sweaters are blocked to shape and lay flat on the rack (Low / Extra Low Heat).

DELAY START: This dryer does not have a delay start feature. This does not bother me or the rest of the family since we switch the clothes directly from the washer to the dryer.

ALARM: This machine has an alarm signal. What I like is that the signal can be adjusted to individual preference (there are two loudness levels, or turn the alarm off). I hate it when an alarm blares at me.

DOOR: The washer is on the left with the dryer to the right of it. We positioned the door so that it swings open to the right, making an easy transfer of clothes from the washer to the dryer. However, the door can be mounted to swing to the left if desired.

OPTIONAL PEDESTAL: We saw the optional pedestal and decided not to buy it. The pedestal drawer didn't seem practical for storage, and we didn’t need to add extra height to the machine. The drawer would hold small items, but it would not store larger laundry detergent bottles. It could hold dryer sheets such as Bounce, but we didn’t feel the pedestal was worth the extra expense.

WARRANTY: It’s nice that this dryer has a 2-year warranty on Control Board Parts, and there is a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.

Purchasing

On sale, this machine cost $808.00 from Best Buy. It normally retails for $919.99.

Summary

This Samsung 7.3 cu. ft. Super-Capacity Dryer has proven an excellent buy. The dryness sensor works great and definitely saves the dryer from running too long. It’s an energy efficient machine that is a pleasure to operate.
