Double duty, space saving! Great idea!

Pros: Double duty, saves space, ability to place TV on top.
Cons: A little noisy, but not noticeable. A little slow, but works well.
The Bottom Line: A good player for a great price and it performs well for the place we use it.

My son had a VCR (old one) and a DVD (new, but very basic one) in his room. Kids rooms, as most parents know, are screaming for more space, so anything we can do to eliminate extra items is welcome.
The DVD/VCR combo units offer us a chance to get rid of both black boxes and replace with one, that does both DVDs and VHS tapes and takes up about the same amount of space. Now, keep in mind, that this is a lower priced unit and has some issues, but nothing that would keep me from purchasing it again. In fact, it works so well, so effortlessly, that I purchased the identical one for my parents for Christmas. They had the VCR, and no DVD. Mom was watching DVDs on her computer.
This unit switches back and forth easily, to the VCR or DVD player, either with the remote or with the function keys on the front of the player. Easy for my young son to operate and control.
The one I have is in black instead of silver, which matches the TV in his room. It is also durable enough to place the TV on top of the unit, which also helps save space. Some of the combo units are not deep enough or made heavy enough to support a TV on top. This is one of the best features of this unit.
Sometimes we download music from iTunes and this player will play music CD's as well. This is a very nice feature and allows my son to play some kids songs in his room as well, without having to add another item.
Hookup is another big issue. Since this is a combo unit, it hooks up with one simple set of wires - not two, as required by two separate units.
