Pros: Dual deck, plentiful connectors, good VHS features
Cons: Many DVD video artifacts, annoying remote, does not remember location.
The Bottom Line: The DVD playback is spotty, and the control features for DVD are annoyingly hard to use.

I was delighted to find this unit for the simple reason that it reduced the amount of hardware and cable clutter in my room.
The VHS features are adequate. It's been a while since I bought one, so I was amazed by its ability to set the clock automatically and display the name of the movie that is playing on the TV. First time I saw automatic tracking, too.
Then I played DVDs. There are frequent artifacts, where parts of the screen break up into one-inch squares. If you stop it and shut it off in the middle of a DVD, it does not recall your place when you start it up - this is a major issue for people subject to long interruptions, like parents.
And the remote control stinks for DVDs. The same button is used for fast-forward and skip a chapter. Press it briefly, it skips a chapter. Hold it 5 seconds, it goes faster. You have to release it and press again to speed up to the next step. Mistakes are frequent, and I end up at some unintended place in the disk.
