oman126's Full Review: Samsung LN-T4665F 46 in. TV
The 'just scan' mode is noted in the manual as for use with HDMI and DVI inputs, which should yield the best picture. Since I'm using the HDMI input, I expect to use the 'just scan' mode. However, when in this mode (at least with Cablevision as the provider) there are various artifacts that appear on the edges of screen (lines, boxes, and lines shifted)on a number of channels.
Cablevision originally told me that they were aware of the problem and were working with the cable box manufacturer to fix it. When the cable service rep came out, he said that the cable was fine, the problems was with the TV. We called Samsung in and they said that there was nothing wrong, except that 'just scan' mode was only for video games, and we should use the 16:9 format. I take that advice as a work around, not a fix.
I found through internet searches a number of other posts which describe this problem as well, with no real explanation of what causes it or what the fix is. Circuit City said that they had a bunch come back after Christmas. Some say that Samsung is making bad main boards. When the Samsung tech arrived at my house, he brought a new main board with him.
The manual looks like it was written in broken English in some parts, which make it had to understand what to expect.
So far, I'm not done with this saga. The picture is beautiful when there's no junk around the edges. I'm not sure why somebody doesn't step up to the problem and work it out.
