| L.Theman's Full Review: Samsung SGH M100 Cell Phone |
You can file this under the "What will they think of next" section of Epinions, or just leave it here in the wireless phone section, whatever floats your boat.
But you will have to admit this is one of the coolest phones that has ever been on the market. Samsung is the first major wireless company to hit the wireless industry with a phone that doubles as an MP3 player. Now before you get your hopes up and jump in the car to go buy yourself one, the phone does run about four hundred dollars, but if you can get over that little catch, you can soon be the hippest person on the block.
(Disclaimer: The words "coolest" and "hippest" were used to make this phone appeal to our older and middle age readers.)
First the MP3 Player
The phone will hold about 64MB of internal memory, that is enough to hold about a CD's worth of music. The phone also comes with a USB cable for downloading directly from your computer. This is a another great reason to use Napster and steal from the man. Although the wireless web is available, you can't download music directly to the phone via Sprint's wireless web, but hopefully that won't be to far away. So, you will have to have some MP3s to download, but I assume if you are buying a 400 dollar MP3 player, you have got that covered.
The phone also comes with an earpiece with remote volume controls on it for easy listening. The phone will still ring in the earpiece while you are listening to music, you can answer if you want, and the music will continue after you hang up.
Now the Phone
The phone is a dual band model, so it works in both digital and analog modes. It comes with a lithium ion battery with 3.3 hours of talktime and 140 hours in standby mode. The MP3 player will work for ten hours off one charge.
As with most Samsung phones, it comes with voice dialing, so you can just say the name of the person you want to call, instead of dialing it. It also has a calender, "to do" list, and an extensive phone book in its menu, which is easy to navigate with its icons.
The phone is very small for all its features. Even with the MP3 player, it is still 4.2" by 1.8," not too bad. It does come with a earpiece set, but it can be a little bit of a hassle with its remote controls and wires, they can get in the way sometimes.
A ton of other features come with the phone, as well, that I will not go into for the sake of space. Unfortunately, it still has your average Samsung reception. While not bad, Samsung's digital reception is still a step behind what it should be. Another downer, with all the features, the phone is small but still has some weight to it, if you were to drop it, you would now be out four hundred dollars.
The End
So you get a 200 dollar phone and a 200 dollar MP3 player for 400 dollars. That's just about right, if you want an MP3 player. If you are just looking for a phone, you can get the a Samsung 8500, with the same features for half the price.
