pisces61's Full Review: Samsung Maxima 105 GL 35mm Film Camera
I received this camera for a christmas present my senior year of high school, the year I took a photography class. That was 4 years ago and my camera is still in perfect condition. It still looks brand new and I have never had any problems with it.
The first thing I loved about the camera is all of the features it has! If you ever have the urge to get creative with your photography, these options will definately help out. I had a chance to try all kinds of things with it for my photography class, I learned a lot. After I graduated, I entered a local photography contest and got one of my photos published in a history of the county book! I was so excited, that picture turned out exactly the way I wanted it to. I know with a lot of cameras, you snap a great picture only to have it come back fuzzy, or blurry, or too dark, and with this camera I do not have to worry about those things.
About the Camera
This camera has a great LCD panel that makes it easy to switch between flashes and modes. You are able to set the date to appear on your photos, but that option can be turned off if you do not like that. (I don't use it). It has a battery indicator that alerts you when the batteries are running low. It has a sleek shape that makes it easy to handle at all times. The batteries and film are easy to change.
Macro Photography is available for when you need to take close-ups. It has regular macro and super macro. With these features, you can be extremely close to an object and have it turn out sharp and clear.
Backlight Control is available for when you need to take a photo of a subject in low light compared with the background. Also, when the distance is too great to use flash, you can use this option.
Red-Eye Reduction is available for taking people photos, we all hate when our beautiful pictures come out with red eyes! This will help minimize that from happening.
Fill-In Flash is available for when the surrounding light conditions are too strong for the auto flash. This flash will allow you to expose your subject properly. You can also use this mode for night shots.
Flash Off is available for when you do not want to use any type of flash. This comes in handy for sunsets, and things of the like.
Bulb Mode is available for when you want to be creative and do time exposures of subjects (such as fireworks, cars driving passed, etc). This works best for night scenes. The shutter will remain open for as long as your finger is on the button. This mode also allows you to use fill-in flash in combination and has a bulb-timer for when you want to keep the shutter open for a certain amount of time (between 1-60 seconds).
Zoom Switch allows you to zoom up to 105mm. This really comes in handy, I use this a lot for when I am too far away from a subject and need a closer image.
Exposure Compensation allows you to manually adjust the level of exposure to compensate for overall brightness or darkness.
Continuous Shooting allows you to take a sequence of pictures of a moving subject. As long as you have the shutter button depressed, it continues to take pictures.
Fuzzy Mode allows you to avoid camera shake and under-exposed subjects in your pictures. It may automatically adjust the features to give you the best photo.
Portrait Zoom allows you to maintain a constant size within the frame, even though the distance to the subject may vary.
Step Zoom allows you to take a number of pictures of the same subject using different focal lengths. Up to 10 different shots can be made.
Self Timer comes in handy for when you want to get in the photo yourself! Just set the self timer, press the shutter button, a red light comes on for 7 seconds to show you it's activated, then blinks for 3 seconds before snapping the photo. It also has a multiple self timer that allows you to choose between 2-10 photos.
Interval Shooting can be used to take photos automatically over a chosen period of time. You can set it to snap a picture every 10 seconds to 60 minutes.
Multi-Exposure Shooting is a fun and creative setting. It allows you to do trick photography! You can combine several shots on the same frame. This is best used at night, but if you're good, you can get some neat day shots as well.
As you can probably tell, this is a great camera! I am satisfied with it 100%. It tries to let you know if you are in a situation where the photo will not turn out properly. For example, if you are too close to an image (close enough that you should be using the macro modes) the camera will not go off until you move further away. This really does help you take better pictures. Even if you do not need all the extra features, this is a great camera! I do not believe it cost too much, in the $100 range, like I said, it was a gift. If you are looking for a new camera, definately check out those made by Samsung!
