| garfield135's Full Review: Samsung Q1 (NP-Q1-V002) Tablet PC |
The Samsung Q1 is a very good portable system with some slight flaws. It runs Windows XP (mine currently runs Windows 7) and it runs it pretty quickly. It only has 2 USB ports... 3 would be more helpful, but it's still fine. Also, it has a built in CF reader. An SD card reader would be more helpful, but you can get converters. The screen looks pretty good, and the resolution can go up to 1024 by 600, which is basically the standard for netbooks now. The native resolution is 800 by 480, so putting it on anything different distorts it a bit, but it really isn't that big of a deal. The screen could be a bit brighter and more scratch-resistant, but it's a really good screen. It has 2 built-in microphones, which supposedly makes talking quality better, but I don't know... The unit does not include a webcam, but it's not the end of the world. Another thing to consider are the specs, which are stuff like a 1 GHZ Pentium M ULV, 1 GB of RAM, 60 GB of storage, a 7" screen, and an Intel GMA 900 graphics card. The graphics card doesn't really let you use Areo, so if you upgrade to Vista (bad choice) or Windows 7 (better choice), you can't really have any of the 3D effects. (In case you want to put Windows 7 on it, the sound and microphones don't work without drivers, the touchscreen is not really accurate, and you can't change the resolution from 640 by 480 without a driver. As far as I know, there isn't a working driver for sound to work.) The unit has built in wireless, which is basically a given, but it also has Bluetooth, which is really convenient. The only real flaw is the lack of a keyboard, but it comes with an onscreen keyboard, so it isn't really that big a deal. If you want a small, portable computer that you can easily carry around and show off to people, then the Q1 is right for you, otherwise, get a laptop. UPDATE: Yeah, I should have posted this way earlier, but you can get sound to work... easily
