Why this phone is my baby...
Written: Jan 03 '01 (Updated Sep 13 '01)
Pros:Sleek and functional
Cons:voice quality could be better.
The Bottom Line: Crazy Cute, mad functional, great voice quality, smart all around.
I love the only cell phone i have ever had. I finally got my first cell phone 4 months ago while in Savannah GA. Why did i buy the 6100? Because it was the sexiest phone available at the time, at a reasonable cost. Not to mention, when i bought it at Best Buy, there was $60 rebate, a $30 rebate and a $50 rebate. Easy choice, that made my $140 phone $0. Nice. And i worked there, so i actually got a little more of discount. I made money on the deal.
The phone is tiny. It is champagne. It is so cute that it is just heavenly. My Palm V used to be my baby, but now it's the mommy and my phone is the baby (think Molly Shannon bedroom scene in SuperStar) and they both fit in my incipio palmplus case in Giraffe. Hello! It doesn't get any better than this! But i digress. It's being so tiny may be a problem for larger hands, so try it out at the store for 10 minutes first. A problem almost eliminated with voice dialing. The flip bottom can be taken off completely or you can answer the phone with the flip closed by programing you're phone to "answer with any key" and use the volume keys to answer it. I do this so i can use the flip as little as possible - it just looks cuter.
The features on this phone seem to never end. The only thing more i could possibly want is speaker phone. It has a Personal Information Manager system that suites all of my needs. Fowarding, Blocking, 99 capacity phone number storage, 20 # speed dial. Call waiting and 3 way calling are VERY easy to use. When in doubt, press "talk". And of course, Voice Activated Dialing. I inially stored about 10 #'s this way and use the feature ALL the time i want to call my people. BUT, it took my a while to program, it kept not recognizing, but once i programed them, it recognizes correctly about 95% of the time. Most failures are due to outside noise. But wait, it doesn't end there! We're talking 5 minute voice memo, (never used) Calender, todo functions (i have a palm and wouldn't ever waste my time using this feature, but maybe good for emergencies), calculator, (used sometimes), 3 alarms that wake me up every morning!, this crazy feature called T9 text input that GUESSES the words you are entering and totally freaks me out!, and of course, wireless web. You can also receive emails right to your phone, your phone# is your email address. Man i love this phone.
I use wireless web to check my email and that's about it. but that is a great convenience.
The battery life is sweet. It claims 1.5 hours talk time and 175 hours standby. I'd say that's about right, although i know i have talked more than 1.5 hours at some point.
Voice quality is pretty good, but i don't have a lot to compare it to. My friend has an old sony Z phone and the quality is better than mine. Oh well.
Great keys for answer and volume on the side really add to the convenience of the phone. These are keys you will use so much, it is very important that they are well placed as these are. I definitely appreciate that.
Most people's problem with this phone is that it is Single band. When i used to work at Best Buy in the Cell/PDA department, everyone wanted this phone, but you either can use it or you can't. Check your calling area and think ahead. I'm a city girl. Manhattan or bust and have no intention of ever needing analog service.
I really love this phone very much. It's too cute and very complete. The new nokias about the same size are cute too, but not nearly as complete (NO WEB BROWSER, come on, get with the program!)
My sprint service is very good except for all the dropped calls. It's okay for me because most of the calls are social.
I would recommend this phone to anyone buying a new cell phone on the sprint network, keep your eye out for Best Buy rebate cards on Sprint phones, they usually offer them every 3rd week up to $70!
Cheers,
Loren
