I've been using a 17" monitor at work for the last 2-3 years. I had never had a Samsung monitor before but I've used NEC's, Viewsonic's, Compaq's and other brands at work. At home I have always used an old 15" MAG monitor that came with my first 486 system. I work on PCs everyday (that's been my job for 17+ years), so I know the importance of a good display monitor. In fact, I'd say a monitor might very well be the most important piece of hardware. It is after all is said and done where all of your output is presented to you.
I needed to build another system (my third system) because I will soon have two children away at college. This gave me a chance to build myself a new system for my own personal use. I did a lot of looking in my local computer stores and on the Internet to try to find the best monitor for the money. I eventually decided on a Samsung because of their quality, cost and warranty (3 years parts and labor). Samsung was also offering a $50 rebate in April, 2000. Visit their web site and poke around. I see they're offering a $30 rebate during the month of May.
The 755DF has a beautiful display. As flat as can be, sharp, bright and with excellent color presentation. The monitor's housing is also sleek and attractive. Setup was very easy. The high resolution and 20mm dot pitch make this monitor easy on the eyes and very crisp.
The on screen controls aren't intuitive, but once you've done them once or twice I'm sure you'd find them easy enough to use. After all this isn't something you really need to do very often.
This is the most impressive CRT monitor I've seen. Yes, the LCD/TFT's are superior, but I'm building my entire system for less than what one of these babies would cost me.
I strongly recommend the Samsung Syncmaster 755DF monitor to anyone who's looking for a high quality display.
