Not to compete with those retro-style geek models like Canon G12 or Nikon P7000, the wb2000 body is very much geared towards user experience. The grip enables steady one-hand operation and this is 100 times better than the dull Canon S95. This is all achieved without bulk up the size, nice design. The battery and memory gauge, though not liked by everyone, does provide instant information at a glance and I started like them after a few days.
The performance is also quite swift without too much lag. When full size stills or 1080P HQ video is replayed, you can barely feel the delay that even entry level DSLRs suffer.
The dual-capture is really working as it claims, and this is also one of the main reason that I bought it. Many times you don't want to miss the critical moment but can't stop the video at the middle of the actions. With WB2000, you can take full size stills in the middle of full HD video recording. And the stills are taken with all the exposure controls you have set before start the video.
Don't be biased by some negative reviews like those found on dpreview. You better try it to verify its value.
Other features like 240FPS slow motion and 10FPS full size burst mode are all very useful. The 5x optical zoom starting at 24mm provides a very good balance between functionality and optical quality. The F2.4 aperture and ISO800 usability are just the cherry on top of the cream.
The major shortcomings I can tell is that the battery is short and occasional off-ground balance and exposure. The off-ground exposure may be corrected by selecting metering mode. Lack of HDMI cable is a mild negative, since most HDTVs have SD slot.
I do wish, like many user pointed, that the thumb wheel can be programmed so that it can be widely used.
But all in all, all the shortcomings can be somehow compensated, but no other compact camera comes close to wb2000's portfolio of its feature set, performance, and design thoughtfulness.
