Pros: Good Finish; Pleasant Aftertaste

Sam Adams White Ale is brewed in the tradition of a Belgian- style beer. It uses a portion of wheat malt, in addition to the usual barley malt, giving it a tartness that you don't get from barley alone.
When you pour this beer into a glass, you will notice that it has a cloudy appearance. Boston Beer Company does not filter this beer. Because of this, it is common to find a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. It shouldn't be too much of a distraction but I know that some drinkers are turned off by this. If you're one of them, a careful pour should ensure that no sediment makes its way into your glass.
There is a spicy, sour, citrus- like aroma to this beer. When you take your first sip, however, you will notice that it is not as spicy as the smell indicates. It starts out balanced, then finishes with a slightly bitter, fruity taste with a bite at the end. You can taste several distinct flavors, including wheat, coriander, lemon, and citrus. There is also a pleasant creaminess to the finish. Several minutes after I finished this beer, I noticed that there was an aftertaste of oranges that lingered for quite some time. The statistics on this beer show that it has an average alcohol level of about 5.2 percent by volume.
Sam Adams White Ale is a decent representation of the Belgian style, but by no means the best. It is the type of beer that would complement certain foods very nicely, like appetizers and salads, but would not complement most other foods or occasions. I don't care for the bite in the finish and I find the overall flavor a little off. Still, it is worth a try if you haven't already tasted it.
