| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Samuel Adams Spring Ale |
The spring season is a time to celebrate. It is a time to welcome the end of the cold winter season and the beginning of the warmer time of the year that leads to summer. To accommodate this change in seasons, the Boston Beer Company offers the beer drinker Samuel Adams Spring Ale.
This beer is brewed in the Kolsch tradition, a brewing style that has its roots in the German city of Cologne. Kolsch is a style of beer that had been long forgotten by most Americans until the microbrewing revolution of the 1980's and 1990's. Boston Beer Company, and several other microbreweries, have taken the lead in reviving this German beer style.
Sam Adams Spring Ale has a taste that is similar to a pilsner, but less assertive. It is malty, soft, and easily drinkable and digestible. There is no distinct sweetness or dryness in the initial sip or in the finish. From beginning to end, Spring Ale remains smooth, balanced, and refreshing. The alcohol level is 5.2 percent by volume and there are 170 calories per 12 oz. serving.
Spring Ale is a good social beer. It is the type of beer that is not too heavy and not too filling. It would complement cheese, soup, sausage, and any potato dish very well.
Unfortunately, Spring Ale is only offered for a few months each year. Don't be left behind. When you see it in the beer isle, be sure to pick up a six pack. Whether you drink it with friends, with food, or while watching a springtime game of baseball, you won't be disappointed.
