Pros: rugged exterior, fm tuner w/ record ability

Cons: defective headphone plug

The Bottom Line: Buy an ipod instead. The radio feature would be nice..if it worked.

I compared all the mp3's and the ipods when I bought this last year. The sansa seemed a better deal because of the fm tuner and ability to record off the air.

The Sensa is a pretty close clone to the ipod and worked almost as good for a while. I noticed that it has noise distortions between cuts. I also found the controls less user friendly than the ipod.

My daughter said she couldn't get reception on the turner most of the time. She was able to record a couple songs off air, but not enough to make it worth while.

It is a solid unit and has stood up well to the abuse of a teenager, but the part that ultimately failed was a surprise. The head phone jack plug stopped working on one side. At first you could wiggle the plug to get a good connection, but now it only provides sound to one side.

This is a major aggrivation as you know its working but can't hear the sound very well. And its warrenty period is up now of course. Meanwhile my ipod mini still keeps ticking.

So today I went out and bought her an Ipod Nano to replace the Sansa.

The other aggrivation was the "free" Rhapsody. Don't waste the time. Of all the sites i have bought music from, this is the first that requires periodic re-licensing. Every 30 days those songs won't play unless you plug into Rhapsody and update. This is for songs you bought. What a pain in the butt.

I tunes is great to use compared to that site.
