Admission to Epcot at Disney World is required in order to dine at San Angels. Reservations can be made by calling 407-WDW-DINE. You likely will not get a seat unless you have made reservations ahead of time which is standard policy at all sit-down restaurants at Disney.
This restaruant, San Angel Inn, should not be confused with La Cantina which is counter service across the sidewalk from this restaurant.
Hours
Lunch hours are 11:30 am 3:00 pm. Dinner hours are 4:00 pm approximately 9:00 pm.
Service
We made our reservation for dinner. We arrived 15 minutes early and were seated immediately.
Our waitress was about the only thing I liked about our dining experience. She welcomed us in Spanish. She did a fine job of keeping our drinks full, socializing with the kids, and bring and processing our check quickly.
Ambience
We were seated at little tiny table at the back of the restaurant. We had an excellent view of the pyramid and we could watch the people begin their boat ride. It would be a nice choice for a romantic dinner.
The restaurant was set up like an outdoor scene in Mexico (but it is indoor and air conditioned). There was a gorgeous pyramid in the background. When you look at the restaurant at as whole, it was really cool. The room is extremely dark with lighting coming from the street lights and tiny bit of light in the lamp on our table.
As attractive as this arrangement is, it was very annoying once seated. I have perfect eyesight but found it very difficult to see the menu. Our table was tiny and there was barely any room between tables. I could hear what the guests at other tables were saying.
Menu and Flavor
I would have preferred to eat here for lunch because it is $5 a plate cheaper at lunchtime, however we chose dinner. Dinner plates start at $20. Theres more food on the dinner plate than on the lunch plate.
We had chosen what we wanted ahead of time on an online menu. When we got there we learned that what we had chosen was no longer on the menu so we had to make a different selection.
The food was on the exotic side. There were things on the menu that I am not familiar with and therefore have no idea if I would like them or not. For example: fried plantain, cactus strips, chayote chiles, poblano strips, or roasted chayote.
Shrimp sounded good so I chose:
Camerones Con Fideos - Shrimp marinated and grilled, served over angel hair pasta with tomatoes and chipotle pepper $21.50
The shrimp was wonderful but I didnt like the sauce over the angel hair at all. It was soupy and gross. I forcec myself to eat it but I didnt like the flavor at all. I think it's the first time ever that I didn't like the flavor of something that I ordered.
My husband made a better choice:
Plato Mexicano - Beef Tenderloin Tampiquena, chicken enchilada, and beef flauta, served with sour cream, black refried beans and Mexican rice $20.99
I tasted his and it was good. He said it was ok, but nothing to brag about.
My kids chose the chicken and cheese quesadilla which came with rice and a drink for $6. They both thought the quesadilla was good.
There was a lot of food to eat. We were stuffed by the time we were finished and lacked motivation to walk around Epcot after we ate.
Overall
Our waitress was nice and the atmosphere was interesting but I didnt like the food or the price at all. We will never eat dinner at this restaurant again however I am open to revisiting for an appetizer and margarita if we go without the kids.
We did get some good pictures and will have some good memories from the experience. I think I would recommend it more to people without young kids.
