Freak369's Full Review: Sanford 30078 Sharpie Fine Tip Permanent Marker
When it comes to permanent markers I like the colors to be bright, the ink to dry fast and for them to be able to work on a variety of surfaces. When I saw the Sharpie 1 mm fine tip marker set at Office Depot I knew that I had to get them. Most of my other fine tip permanent markers were dried out or on their way to dying and I wasnt going to take a chance of starting a project with one of them and having to scramble to find a replacement in the same shade. The Sharpie name is one that I really trust when it comes to markers; any time I ever had a problem they were quick to resolve it and so far [knock wood] Ive never had any of them leak or the caps come loose in my backpack. About the only downside to this is that it doesnt come with a carrying case, that means once you open the package you have to try and keep rack of them so they dont get mixed in with other markers. The barrels are distinctive and its easy to see that it is a Sharpie Grip marker but if you are like me, doing ten things at once, its pretty easy to grab the wrong marker at the wrong time.
Sharpie Grip Permanent Marker SetEight Color Set
You might be wondering what the big deal is with these, simply put, its the rubber comfort grip area at the base that sets this apart from most permanent markers on the market. This means you can write longer without hand cramps, it feels a little more natural when you are using them and you have more control over it. Since these are fine tipped markers you wont be using them to label boxes for storage or moving but they are extremely handy when you want to write on compact disc cases, floppy discs, notebook covers, insulated wires for your computer or anything else that sits still long enough for you to write on it. About the only thing that this wont write on is a glossy stock that has no grain to it but if you do need to write on this type of surface, allow it to dry for about ten minutes and then cover it with tape so it wont rub off.
These are a little nicer to write with than the regular Sharpie markers because the rubber comfort grip helps to eliminate hand cramping. These are great for kids to use on projects, for addressing parcels and day to day things around the house but Ive also used them in the kitchen to write on laminated recipe cards when revisions were needed, on glass, mirrors and even on the back of my computer case so I knew were there were open slots. The ink dries super fast so theres almost no chance of smearing or smudging but it can happen if you are working on a slick surface. This isnt waterproof but it will stand up to a lot of moisture so you can use it in the garage or attic, basement or bathroom and the chances of it wearing off are slim to none.
Colors
You get eight great colors in this set; lime, green, light blue, blue, orange, red, purple / berry and black. I wasnt too crazy about the lime and light blue colors when I first got this set but I have used them from time to time for odd jobs around the house. The orange, blue and black get the most use and the purple / berry color is definitely an odd shade that youd have trouble finding in most combo sets.
Price
Most office supply stores sell these for about eight dollars so you are essentially paying about a buck a piece for them. If you are someone that likes to add a little color to your packages or envelopes then this is the way to go since you will be saving money in the long run over buying them individually. If you are an online shopper then check stores like Shoplet for a competitive price but dont be afraid to look for coupons or combo deals that could reduce the price even more. For me getting the eight marker set was more cost effective than buying them individually even if I didnt like all the color choices that were offered.
Things To Know
• If youve never used the Sanford Grip style marker before and arent sure if they are right for you then you can pick these up individually for about $1.50 to $1.75 depending on where you shop. Places like Target and Wal-mart are more likely to have the best price on the individual ones so if you arent sure these are right for you or your needs, pick one up to try it out.
• These are AP Certified non-toxic so kids can use these for projects without you having to worry about them being exposed to nasty chemicals. There is a slight smell to them [like almost ever other type of permanent marker] but it isnt something that is going to overpower you or take your breath away.
The Bottom Line
If you are sick of using permanent markers that slide around when you are using them or are too hard to control when writing then the Sanford Grip might be for you. If you address a lot of packages or envelopes and get hand cramps from other markers then this is definitely one that you need to check out. If you have tried the Sharpie Grip and like the way it performs then getting the eight color set is a great way to add color to you writing without spending a ton of cash in the process.
