Freak369's Full Review: Sanford 33074 Super Sharpie Permanent Markers Four...
When it comes to markers, I have two favorites, Crayola and Sharpie. Both offer me non-toxic ink, sturdy tips and affordable prices but when it comes to marking something permanently I have to give the points to Sharpie. Not that there is anything wrong with Crayola, but after extended sun exposure, a majority of the colors tend to fade. When I came across the Super Sharpie Four Pack at Office Depot I stood there and debated about it did I really need the additional colors or would black be good enough for my needs? When I saw that it was marked at $2.50 I knew that I had no choice I had to purchase them. Yes, I am a pen and marker junkie but I can say no to some products but when its on sale it's just too tempting.
Sanford Sharpie 4 Color Permanent Marker Set
Like most multi packs, this comes in a small but sturdy plastic case. This means you can take them with you and not have to worry about them sliding all over the place or having to hunt them down when you need them. Since this is a multi pack, you are saving a little bit of cash purchasing four at a time but use some common sense if you dont think youll ever use the red, blue and green marker, opt to purchase the individual black one. These markers are backed by Sanfords quality assurance and guarantee if you arent happy with them or they are defective, Sanford will replace them at no cost to you. So far these have been great for marking boxes for mailing as well as storage, posters, the boys projects and a few other chores around the house. Since these are a lot larger than the standard Sharpie markers you might not think that there are a ton of uses for them but that all changes when you start to use them. Pretty soon youll find all kinds of uses for them the strangest yet writing on glass and mirrors [you have the brood to thank for that one].
Colors
This set contains four colors black, red, blue and green. The colors are all strong and vibrant and retail their boldness even after being exposed to sunlight for an extended period of time. Essentially, these are of the same quality as all the other Sanford Sharpie markers but they have a larger, wider tip and create a bolder line. So far Ive only seen the Super Sharpies in these four colors but I am sure that if these catch on, Sanford will add more colors to the line up. Just like all the other Sharpie markers, the ink is non-toxic, dries fast and wont smudge. There is a slight smell to the tips of the markers, but nothing that will make you light headed or nauseous. This is important to know if you will be making a lot of posters or signs or if kids will be using them but at the same time kids need to be careful when using these because they can make a real mess in record time.
Durability
Since the tip on the Super Sharpie is a lot bigger than the standard sized permanent markers, you might think that they would be a little weaker since they lack the metal sleeve that the fine line markers have. So far none of the point have dulled or gotten soft even after the brood used the black one to color about fifty index cards for a project they are working on. Because of the large tip, you can cover more area in less time perfect for making signs, posters or coloring in large areas. This shouldnt be used on thin sheets of paper because it will bleed through to underlying sheets and potentially warp the paper. Drying out isnt much of an issue since the fat tip holds a good ink reserve. The cap snaps into place and can be attached to the back of the marker when in use so you dont lose or misplace it.
Price
This four pack was prices at $2.50 at Office Depot, this was a clearance price and only a few packs were stickered with the tags. The suggested retail price for this multi pack is between $4.00 and $5.00 depending on where you are located and the type of store you are shopping at. You can usually get a better price on these at office supply stores rather than retail stores like Wal-Mart and Target. If you dont want to commit to the four pack, these can also be picked up individually for about $1.25 - $1.50 a piece. The colored ones are a little harder to find individually, but again, office supply stores usually have these well stocked. If you do shop around you can find the black ones in a twin pack [Smart & Final recently started stocking them] for about $1.99.
The Bottom Line
While I was a little skeptical about these at first, Ive really warmed up to them. I was a little hesitant about the size of the Super Sharpie would I really have a need for something this big? Slowly but surely, I did find uses for all the colors and thanks to the brood, I am now missing two of the four markers. Missing isnt exactly the best word more like borrow indefinitely. I can really see me getting a lot of miles out of the black and red ones and plan on picking these up in the single color multi packs the green and blue are great but wont be used as heavily as the black and red. If you are looking for a bold and sturdy marker that will keep up with your needs, check out the Super Sharpie.
