Sanford Expo Is #1:
.....Expo is a division of Sanford that manufactures high end products for white boards. They make everything you'd need, such as dry erase markers, erasers, and white board cleaning agents or towelettes. I know what I am getting when I purchase (or borrow) anything with the Expo Brand. I am getting a product that will last a long time, work up to my standards, and not disappoint me. I have tried many a brand of dry erase markers that just couldn't pull it off like Expo can. I made the choice to go Expo, and I hope you do too.
The Packs:
.....Expo markers come in many size packs and in many colors. You can get them in four-packs, eight-packs, and other sizes to suit your needs. The colors range from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and black. The only color they don't come in is white. ^_^.
.....The pack featured in this review is a four-pack, all markers being black. This pack is good for teachers who like to write everything in one color. They come in a plastic on cardboard pack rather than a box like other sets do. They are compact in the pack which makes it small enough to stuff in your desk until you need them (as does my English teacher, Miss Colvin).
Using Them:
.....Now time to start using the Expo dry erase markers, writing and drawing. When you write with the Expo dry erase markers, they leave behind a thick, full, shiny, abundant line. These markers aren't skimpy in that area at all. They glide smoothly across the board with ease with a vibrant color, unless you're using black markers. And with the nice, thick fat body you get an excellent grip while writing, making it good for those teachers that have arthritis or something. This is where no other marker compares for the most part.
.....And you can't have a good marker without a chisel tip on it. A chisel tip allows you to write in varying thicknesses. I like using the thickest line just because it's a habit that most people do, also. By holding it the normal way you will get a full quarter-inch line of ink. In a different position you can achieve a thinner, more medium-like line for a more detailed line. And on the tilted edge you will get a fine, or mostly fine, line. Chances are you will use the thickest line for most things, including writing text and drawing big pictures. However, if you are a science teacher or something that needs to draw an intricate deoxyribonucleic acid molecule on the board, you might a smaller line for the intricate stuff.
.....An important thing to remember while using Expo markers, or any marker, is to recap your marker after use. Expo markers will dry out on you if left open to the air for an extended period of time. That's why you can keep the cap on the back of the marker while using so you don't forget. If a marker ever goes dry because you left it open, just recap and put it in something that will keep it upright with the tip facing downward. After a day it should work again.
White Board Wipe Away:
.....What would you consider to be the most important thing about your dry erase marker? How good it writes, maybe? Well, I think that is important, but what is also important to me is whether or not it can erase well. Expo markers are very easy to erase and leave little powder behind. I have used other brands that, when erased, leave behind this awful outline that makes the board look tacky. Over time with use of those other markers, your board tends to go severely discolored. But with Expo brand markers, one swipe and they're gone for good, no outline.
A Case Of BO - Board Odor:
.....Expo dry erase markers, like most other dry erase and permanent markers, have an odor. I guess there's always a price to pay when you get such a grand item. I don't find the marker odor to be much of a nuisance. If you open the marker and only use it for a minute or two, you probably won't notice it. However, if you use it for prolonged periods of several minutes or so, chances are the odor will find its way to your nose. But don't let such a small factor be a variable in your buying decision. Just use them in a ventilated area.
Location, Location, Location:
.....Who said that these markers were for classrooms only? No one, really. I have some Expo dry erase markers at home that I write on my little white board with. I need a marker that will write nice and thick so that my Japanese characters, of which I practice, come out nice and full looking. Our school only uses Expo products for their boards.
Terms Way Over My Head:
.....Here is some information that you may find useful, though I don't really think it is:
--Certified AP Non-Toxic (still doesn't mean you can eat it, though)
--Conform To ASTM D4236 (Whatever that means)
My Expo E/Opinion:
.....I would definitely, without a doubt, 100% recommend this pack of Expo black chisel tip dry erase markers to any white board owner. They write great and erase like they weren't there to start. They will last a long time and have a constant output of ink throughout their lifespan. Don't make the mistake of getting those 'other' brands.
