| Freak369's Full Review: Sanford Sharpie Retractable Tip Markers 8 Color Se... |
The Sanford Company is always looking for ways to improve their products. In regards to the Sharpie line, well, I thought that there was no way to top the design of one of the best permanent markers but they made me eat crow when the introduced the retractable version. What makes this so nice is that you dont have to worry about caps or losing them; just retract the tip and you are done. One of the biggest problems I had with regular Sharpie markers is that I would replace the cap and think it was completely locked in place only to reach in to my backpack and find the cap off the marker and everything in my backpack covered in ink. These are a great investment for anyone that loves Sharpie products but wants something a little simpler to work with and carry around with them.
Sanford Sharpie 8 Color Retractable Tip Marker Set
black, dark blue, light blue, green, lime, orange, red, purple
If you are a fan of the Fine point Sharpie marker and are looking for something a little different the retractable is a nice marker to check out. It has the same qualities as the regular version; smooth ink flow, permanent on almost every type of surface, non-toxic ink and a plethora of colors to choose from. Yes, there is a slight smell to them but once you retract the tip the smell doesnt linger nor does it ooze from the tip. I havent had any problems with dust or dirt getting inside the membrane that protects the tip from drying out or leaking so I have to give Sanford high marks on the design of this. Sometimes improvements to markers and pens aren't really an improvement at all but I have to say that I really do like these. Sanford is not planning on eliminating the capped versions of the Sharpie so if you like those a little more there is no need to worry about them discontinuing them.
So if you already have Sharpie markers, do you really need these? Nope. The only difference between these and the regular Sharpie markers is that the tip retracts. For some people that can be a saving grace because caps can get lost and they can dry out because of it. These do not have caps to them; instead the marker relies on a valve inside the nib to protect the tip when it is retracted. So far I havent had any problems with these leaking even when they were tossed in my backpack or left outside the plastic package that I keep markers in when I am out of the shop. The clicking mechanism is smooth and isnt all that loud. If you are someone that is always losing caps this can be a great product for you to check out, just remember to retract the tip when you are done!
You can get the retractable markers in Fine or Ultra Fine point but the Ultra Fine point is only available in three colors [red, black, blue] at present moment. The Fine point comes in 16 colors [purple, green, teal, orange, red, black, blue, dark blue, light blue, lime, magenta, very berry, light purple, aqua blue, turquoise and dark orange]. The colors are packaged in four, eight and twelve marker packs so if you are interested in these and like the concept you can get them in some very nice shades. The eight pack has the following colors: black, dark blue, light blue, green, lime, orange, red and purple. The colors are the same exact shades as the regular Sharpie markers so if you need to match up shades, it shouldnt be a problem.
The Bottom Line
With a suggested retail price of about six dollars for the eight color pack, you do stand to save some money over buying these individually. Staples has these on sale last month for $5.00 as part of an in-store promotion and I am kicking myself for not grabbing a few more packs for the shop. They are forever losing caps or putting them back on the wrong markers so in that regard these would be a most welcome replacement, all I would have to train them to do would be to click the marker and retract the tip and trust me, that isn't easy when you are dealing with some rather lazy people that are convinced that markers never dry out.
Part of me wants to say that these aren't worth it because they are the same exact product as the standard Fine line Sharpie permanent marker but my pen and marker addiction forces me to say otherwise. Sanford will never get rid of the regular Sharpie marker from their product line up, that would be completely moronic as it is one of the most popular and widely known permanent markers. The retractable version is great and if you try them and like them, the eight color pack is the best value for your money.
As always, thanks for the visit
