| erratum's Full Review: Sanyo SCP 4000 Cell Phone |
I'm not easy on my cell phones, and to date this is the most durable phone I have seen. After several of my friends have had to return their Nokia cell phones for service, and my last phone (Samsung 3500)decided to silence itself, I got the impression that a cell phone cannot be both durable and functional. I was wrong, as this phone works without fail, even after the amount of terrible treatment I have putthis phone thru. I have thrown it quite hard at the side of a building (the battery flew off, and once reseated, the phone started right up), thrown it at the door of a car (again, the battery flew off), played soccer with it on a marble floor, dropped it onto a marble floor repeatedly from a height of about 5 feet, dropped it in snow, sprayed water on it, smacked it quite hard with a blunt (hard) object only to create a small crack in the screen, played football with it only to miss passes and send it flying across cement surfaces, and the list goes on. I think I have had the phone for about 8 months now, and it still functions as if it were brand new. I recieved this phone as a tradein for my nonfunctional Samsung 3500. Aside from a less elegant UI, this phone performs about on par with the Samsung. It is a slim phone, and is relatively light for the amount of talk time it can achieve on a charge. The charging adapter for the phone is not as elegant as the one provided with the Samsung, but it serves it's purpose.
Overall the phone is a good solid workhorse. It's not a flashy phone, it doesn't have some of the nicer features like voice dialing, but it does have the advantage of being built quite solidly. I expect to get another 3 or 4 months out of this phone, at which time I will probably switch to a service that has Nokia phones.
