Pros: It's pink! Not expensive, takes good pictures
Cons: smile detection is annoying, the settings have slow shutter speeds
I bought my Sanyo VPC-S1085 Digital Camera for a new job that I recently started. It was required that I own a camera. For Money I drive around and take pictures of houses for various reasons. For this job I do not need a fancy digi camera. A point and shoot camera is all that is needed. I literally drive by homes and take a picture. It's drive by pictures. Point and shoot is all I need.
This camera is not a barebones camera and has annoying settings. I do not like it when the camera is accidentally on one of these settings. An example would be when smile detection is on. This feature makes the camera slow, especially since houses do not smile. I will admit I skipped reading the manual. I have owned a canon cool pix from the early 2000's and thought I knew how to use a camera. I did not realise why my camera was slow or how to change it right away. It does not have the most obvious or easy to set settings. Smile detection is not the only annoying feature and I had to pick from a lot to find a good setting.
I still have not read the manual but I did figure out how to set the many modes it has. It has modes for the following: Flowing water, snow, beach, pets, natural green, smile detection, anti-shake, panorama, portrait man, portrait women, landscape, sports, night portrait, night scene, candle light, fireworks, text, sunset, sunrise, and splash water. That's a lot of annoying settings to accidentally set. Plus why do I need to have different settings for women and men? Is my camera sexist? Many of these setting make the camera slow. Time is money. Is this why I am playing 70 over 59 dollars?
This camera is 10 mega pixels. That is a lot for a point and shoot camera. I don't plan on printing huge pictures of homes. Luckily you can change the size of the pictures on the camera. It takes good pictures but my old Canon Cool pix took better ones and it had less mega pixels. Like most modern digi camera it has a flash and a view screen. It's fairly large and clear. It does not have a traditional view finder. What new digi does? I miss that feature. Sometimes I can't see what I am taking because of the glare from the sun or even reflections.
This is my second digital camera. I had an older Canon Cool pix from 2002 and other than being smaller, I really don't think digital cameras have gotten much better. Atleast they have gotten much cheaper. I think my cool pix was in the 400 dollars range.
