| BettyKat's Full Review: Sardi's |
Well, we had to try it. When my best friend and I were in New York and decided to see a show, we figured we'd try Sardi's. It's the in place for theater-goers, and stars alike! The literati, and the glitterati! Brimming with atmosphere and style, right? Wrong.
Sardi's has to be one of the biggest scams around. It may have been great in its heyday, but folks, its heyday is long gone. There may still be theater folks who eat there after shows, but unless you're in there party, this place ain't for you.
We went for dinner and it was filled with tourists in T-shirts, jeans, baseball caps with "I'm from Kansas and I heard this place is big among local New Yorkers!" written all over them. The staff was lackluster--although they did seem like career waiters, and not college part-time staff--and the food was extraordinarily boring. We're talking basic stuff you can get at Sbarro's for $5. Except at Sardi's, it's like $20.
Look, we knew it wasn't going to be a celebrity-studded restaurant. But we did hope for, seeing the prices, a good meal with at least somewhat attentive service. We got neither.
The restaurant decor is faded and shabby, and the whole atmosphere just reeks with complacency and indifference. They know they are going to get suckers like us who figure we'll try it once, and who'll never come back because of the whole experience, so they don't really care how they treat us. Don't try it in the first place, and prove 'em wrong!
