| mom2daniel's Full Review: Sassy Classic Mam Pacifier |
Pacifiers, binkies, pacies, suckers. What wonderful inventions they are! My son was two weeks old when he used a pacifier for the first time. He had a hearty appetite, but he still needed something to help him out with the sucking instinct that babies have. He used a variety of pacifiers throughout the months, and his favorite seemed to be the MAM Classic made by Sassy.
Wham, Bam, Thank You MAM
The MAM Classic comes in many sizes and different nipple shapes for your baby as he grows. All the MAM binkies are orthodontically correct, so using them will not damage baby's teeth. That was one thing I looked for in a pacifier, because I wasn't sure how long my son would depend on his binky.
The MAM pacifiers also have ventilation on the sides to allow for air to get through to baby's sensitive skin. So many binkies don't have this feature, and my son would seem to get a minor rash from using those brands. With the MAM, my son never had that problem.
MAM helps MOM as well!
For my son's fussiest times, when Mommy couldn't even calm him down, the MAM Classic came through. I felt safe giving one to my son to fall asleep with, because they have what Sassy calls a "button front" that allows your baby's head to move safely from side to side while asleep, without jamming the pacifier into his cheek. They don't come with those annoying handles on the front like some brands, and the edges around the pacifier are rounded to contour around baby's face.
MAM pacifiers, especially the Classic ones, come in a variety of colors, with or without shapes on the button cover, in either clear or regular. The prices vary; I would purchase a pack of two for $2.50 at Target, but they go as high as almost $5.00 for a pack of two, depending on you and your baby's preferences.
The MAM also can be used with a clip, called the Pacifier Keeper, so you don't go through the motions of feeling under the car seat while you're going 65 MPH on the highway with a screaming baby in the back.
Any warnings I should know about?
Of course. The product should not be used if it is in any way damaged, cracked, or ripped. When washing the MAM, make sure you squeeze the nipple to get all of the water out. It has a small air hole to keep the shape of the nipple, and this can fill with water. And as with any pacifier, if the baby can put the shield in his mouth, take it away from him!
As always, clean and sterilize any pacifier before letting baby use it. Keep it sanitary, and keep an eye on baby while he's using it. Better to be safe than sorry!
Sassy suggests on the package cover that pacifier use should not be over four hours a day, since this can overwork baby's jaw muscles. I had never heard this before, but I believe it has to do with being too tired to eat once they've used a binky. My son never had this problem, but he didn't use one that often when he was awake.
Sassy's web site is http://www.sassy.com if you'd like more information on this or any of their other products. I highly recommend this pacifier to parents for their babies, as I believe this is the most reliable, safe product of its kind.
Thanks for reading!
