| alhena's Full Review: Sassy Musical Bobbing Sprites |
We bought these bobbing sprites when my daughter outgrew her baby bath tub -- and it's still her favorite bath time toy.
The Sassy Musical Bobbing Sprites is a package of three fish-like plastic heads attached to a cord out of material, which is attached to a suction cup. They are very colorful, yellow, orange, purple, green, and make noises. One sounds like a maraca, one sounds like it might have a marble inside, and the other one squeaks if you squeeze it's "fin" (although this is pretty complicated for a baby - I can't even do it unless I try to).
The idea is that you can stick the suction cups onto the bottom of the tub and they will bob around in a few inches of water, and make neat noises when the baby grabs or kicks at them.
However, the sprites need to be on the smooth part of the tub or they don't stick. We have a rubber bath mat on the bottom of our tub (because otherwise the tub is slippery!) and so instead of putting the suction cups on the bottom of the tub we stick them on the side, so the sprites float on the top of the water, or just hang. My daughter, when she was younger found this fascinating, and oftentimes would just sit in the center of the tub, grabbing one sprite on each side and pulling on them. The suction cups are pretty strong and she couldn't manage to pull them off the side (but they do have an easy-release if you know how to take off a suction cup).
Now that she's older (19 months)we just hand her the sprites and she likes to shake them and jiggle them and she also likes to stick them on the side of the tub and unstick them over and over and over and over. I think it's great because they're vaguely educational -- she learned cause & effect with the sounds, and now she's learning about how suction cups work (my little genius!)
They appear to be pretty good quality. She's been playing with them for about a year now, pulling and chewing on them, and nothing has come unstitched or has broken. They have even survived many swings them into our cast-iron bathtub!
In closing, I really think these are a great toy. My daughter has other bathtub toys and this is the only one that has captured her attention and kept it. In fact, there are days where she refuses to put them down and carries them all over the house after her bath. The concept is so simple, but obviously it's engaging for babies.
