| modernmarvel's Full Review: Sassy Teething Wing Butterfly |
This little teether was an impulse buy when my baby first started drooling a few months ago. We have had it around for a couple of months now and, while baby likes it, we find there are other teethers she likes much better.
WHAT YOU GET - OUR EXPERIENCE
This teether is shaped like a butterfly. One wing is a soft rubber teether with a liquid inside. The butterfly can be refrigerated and the cold, liquid-filled wing is supposed to soothe baby's gums. I find my baby does not like to handle the cold teether either in her mouth or with her hands so we don't refrigerate it. I also find that she likes firm things to gnaw on. It seems she gets greater relief / enjoyment out of firm surfaces. As a result, I rarely see her mouthing the liquid-filled wing of the butterfly.
The butterfly's other wing is a nubby-textured hard rubber rope-like thing. This piece is thin enough so baby can grip it easily. Our baby enjoys teething on this side more than the other liquid-filled side. However, it is hard for her to grasp the liquid-filled wing to maneuver the harder wing into her mouth. Also, the bendy shape of the wing is hard for her to mouth easily. As a result, she sometimes gets frustrated. Since the butterfly can be hard to hold on to, she also frequently drops it. At this stage, out of sight is out of mind, so she quickly forgets it.
One major positive for this product is that we can put the whole thing in the dishwasher and it comes out clean. Baby teethers get dropped frequently and it is nice to know you can hand baby something that is well-washed. Our butterfly has survived at least 15 trips through the dishwasher on the top rack.
Our baby got this teether when she was four months old. At that time, she had minimal interest in the teether. She is now six and a half months old and plays with it a bit more but still prefers other toys.
This toy does have a nice design. It is colorful and has some interesting textures to stimulate baby. If you wanted to use plastic links to attach the butterfly to a stroller, you could clip a link on the butterfly's wing. My only complaint is that the liquid makes this butterfly slightly heavier than other basic, plastic teethers which might make it harder for an infant to hold on to it.
THIS TEETHER COMPARED TO OTHER TEETHERS
Baby uses this teether occasionally, but she seems to get frustrated with it occasionally when she can't get the harder part into her mouth. This toy really doesn't have much play value except as a teether so it doesn't get picked up too much for other purposes. Mainly, we carry it around in the diaper bag for some brief car or restaurant entertainment.
We have other teethers, some even by the same brand, that baby likes better. I recently reviewed Soft Teething Beads that baby likes better.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
This is just an average teether for us. Baby can't manipulate it as easily as some other toys and teethers that we have. As a result, she occasionally gets frustrated. This isn't the best teether in our collection.
